Devarim 7 – Summary

Prohibition against Treaties with the Canaanites and Obedience Leads to Blessing – The beginning of Chapter 7 warns Israel against making covenants with the inhabitants of Canaan or intermarrying with them, lest they lead the Children of Israel astray and cause them to forget that they are Hashem's chosen nation. At the end of the Chapter, Moshe promises the Children of Israel that if they listen to Hashem’s commandments, they will be blessed with health and military success. Moshe encourages the people not to fear the Canaanite nations, for God will defeat them just as He did the Egyptians.
