פרק ז

(יב) וְהָיָה עֵקֶב תִּשְׁמְעוּן אֵת הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים הָאֵלֶּה וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם וַעֲשִׂיתֶם אֹתָם וְשָׁמַר י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְךָ אֶת הַבְּרִית וְאֶת הַחֶסֶד אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לַאֲבֹתֶיךָ. (יג) וַאֲהֵבְךָ וּבֵרַכְךָ וְהִרְבֶּךָ וּבֵרַךְ פְּרִי בִטְנְךָ וּפְרִי אַדְמָתֶךָ דְּגָנְךָ וְתִירֹשְׁךָ וְיִצְהָרֶךָ שְׁגַר אֲלָפֶיךָ וְעַשְׁתְּרֹת צֹאנֶךָ עַל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לַאֲבֹתֶיךָ לָתֶת לָךְ. (יד) בָּרוּךְ תִּהְיֶה מִכׇּל הָעַמִּים לֹא יִהְיֶה בְךָ עָקָר וַעֲקָרָה וּבִבְהֶמְתֶּךָ. (טו) וְהֵסִיר י״י מִמְּךָ כׇּל חֹלִי וְכׇל מַדְוֵי מִצְרַיִם הָרָעִים אֲשֶׁר יָדַעְתָּ לֹא יְשִׂימָם בָּךְ וּנְתָנָם בְּכׇל שֹׂנְאֶיךָ. (טז) וְאָכַלְתָּ אֶת כׇּל הָעַמִּים אֲשֶׁר י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ לֹא תָחוֹס עֵינְךָ עֲלֵיהֶם וְלֹא תַעֲבֹד אֶת אֱלֹהֵיהֶם כִּי מוֹקֵשׁ הוּא לָךְ. (יז) כִּי תֹאמַר בִּלְבָבְךָ רַבִּים הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה מִמֶּנִּי אֵיכָה אוּכַל לְהוֹרִישָׁם. (יח) לֹא תִירָא מֵהֶם זָכֹר תִּזְכֹּר אֵת אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְפַרְעֹה וּלְכׇל מִצְרָיִם. (יט) הַמַּסֹּת הַגְּדֹלֹת אֲשֶׁר רָאוּ עֵינֶיךָ וְהָאֹתֹת וְהַמֹּפְתִים וְהַיָּד הַחֲזָקָה וְהַזְּרֹעַ הַנְּטוּיָה אֲשֶׁר הוֹצִאֲךָ י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ כֵּן יַעֲשֶׂה י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְכׇל הָעַמִּים אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה יָרֵא מִפְּנֵיהֶם. (כ) וְגַם אֶת הַצִּרְעָה יְשַׁלַּח י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ בָּם עַד אֲבֹד הַנִּשְׁאָרִים וְהַנִּסְתָּרִים מִפָּנֶיךָ. (כא) לֹא תַעֲרֹץ מִפְּנֵיהֶם כִּי י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ בְּקִרְבֶּךָ אֵל גָּדוֹל וְנוֹרָא. (כב) וְנָשַׁל י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֶת הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵל מִפָּנֶיךָ מְעַט מְעָט לֹא תוּכַל כַּלֹּתָם מַהֵר פֶּן תִּרְבֶּה עָלֶיךָ חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה. (כג) וּנְתָנָם י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְפָנֶיךָ וְהָמָם מְהוּמָה גְדֹלָה עַד הִשָּׁמְדָם. (כד) וְנָתַן מַלְכֵיהֶם בְּיָדֶךָ וְהַאֲבַדְתָּ אֶת שְׁמָם מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמָיִם לֹא יִתְיַצֵּב אִישׁ בְּפָנֶיךָ עַד הִשְׁמִדְךָ אֹתָם. (כה) פְּסִילֵי אֱלֹהֵיהֶם תִּשְׂרְפוּן בָּאֵשׁ לֹא תַחְמֹד כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב עֲלֵיהֶם וְלָקַחְתָּ לָךְ פֶּן תִּוָּקֵשׁ בּוֹ כִּי תוֹעֲבַת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ הוּא. (כו) וְלֹא תָבִיא תוֹעֵבָה אֶל בֵּיתֶךָ וְהָיִיתָ חֵרֶם כָּמֹהוּ שַׁקֵּץ תְּשַׁקְּצֶנּוּ וְתַעֵב תְּתַעֲבֶנּוּ כִּי חֵרֶם הוּא.

פרק ח

(א) כׇּל הַמִּצְוָה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם תִּשְׁמְרוּן לַעֲשׂוֹת לְמַעַן תִּחְיוּן וּרְבִיתֶם וּבָאתֶם וִירִשְׁתֶּם אֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע י״י לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶם. (ב) וְזָכַרְתָּ אֶת כׇּל הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר הוֹלִיכְךָ י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ זֶה אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה בַּמִּדְבָּר לְמַעַן עַנֹּתְךָ לְנַסֹּתְךָ לָדַעַת אֶת אֲשֶׁר בִּלְבָבְךָ הֲתִשְׁמֹר מִצְוֺתָו אִם לֹא. (ג) וַיְעַנְּךָ וַיַּרְעִבֶךָ וַיַּאֲכִלְךָ אֶת הַמָּן אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָדַעְתָּ וְלֹא יָדְעוּן אֲבֹתֶיךָ לְמַעַן הוֹדִיעֲךָ כִּי לֹא עַל הַלֶּחֶם לְבַדּוֹ יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם כִּי עַל כׇּל מוֹצָא פִי י״י יִחְיֶה הָאָדָם. (ד) שִׂמְלָתְךָ לֹא בָלְתָה מֵעָלֶיךָ וְרַגְלְךָ לֹא בָצֵקָה זֶה אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה. (ה) וְיָדַעְתָּ עִם לְבָבֶךָ כִּי כַּאֲשֶׁר יְיַסֵּר אִישׁ אֶת בְּנוֹ י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ מְיַסְּרֶךָּ. (ו) וְשָׁמַרְתָּ אֶת מִצְוֺת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לָלֶכֶת בִּדְרָכָיו וּלְיִרְאָה אֹתוֹ. (ז) כִּי י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ מְבִיאֲךָ אֶל אֶרֶץ טוֹבָה אֶרֶץ נַחֲלֵי מָיִם עֲיָנֹת וּתְהֹמֹת יֹצְאִים בַּבִּקְעָה וּבָהָר. (ח) אֶרֶץ חִטָּה וּשְׂעֹרָה וְגֶפֶן וּתְאֵנָה וְרִמּוֹן אֶרֶץ זֵית שֶׁמֶן וּדְבָשׁ. (ט) אֶרֶץ אֲשֶׁר לֹא בְמִסְכֵּנֻת תֹּאכַל בָּהּ לֶחֶם לֹא תֶחְסַר כֹּל בָּהּ אֶרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אֲבָנֶיהָ בַרְזֶל וּמֵהֲרָרֶיהָ תַּחְצֹב נְחֹשֶׁת. (י) וְאָכַלְתָּ וְשָׂבָעְתָּ וּבֵרַכְתָּ אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ עַל הָאָרֶץ הַטֹּבָה אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לָךְ. (יא) הִשָּׁמֶר לְךָ פֶּן תִּשְׁכַּח אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְבִלְתִּי שְׁמֹר מִצְוֺתָיו וּמִשְׁפָּטָיו וְחֻקֹּתָיו אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם. (יב) פֶּן תֹּאכַל וְשָׂבָעְתָּ וּבָתִּים טֹבִים תִּבְנֶה וְיָשָׁבְתָּ. (יג) וּבְקָרְךָ וְצֹאנְךָ יִרְבְּיֻן וְכֶסֶף וְזָהָב יִרְבֶּה לָּךְ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר לְךָ יִרְבֶּה. (יד) וְרָם לְבָבֶךָ וְשָׁכַחְתָּ אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ הַמּוֹצִיאֲךָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם מִבֵּית עֲבָדִים. (טו) הַמּוֹלִיכְךָ בַּמִּדְבָּר הַגָּדֹל וְהַנּוֹרָא נָחָשׁ שָׂרָף וְעַקְרָב וְצִמָּאוֹן אֲשֶׁר אֵין מָיִם הַמּוֹצִיא לְךָ מַיִם מִצּוּר הַחַלָּמִישׁ. (טז) הַמַּאֲכִלְךָ מָן בַּמִּדְבָּר אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָדְעוּן אֲבֹתֶיךָ לְמַעַן עַנֹּתְךָ וּלְמַעַן נַסֹּתֶךָ לְהֵיטִבְךָ בְּאַחֲרִיתֶךָ. (יז) וְאָמַרְתָּ בִּלְבָבֶךָ כֹּחִי וְעֹצֶם יָדִי עָשָׂה לִי אֶת הַחַיִל הַזֶּה. (יח) וְזָכַרְתָּ אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ כִּי הוּא הַנֹּתֵן לְךָ כֹּחַ לַעֲשׂוֹת חָיִל לְמַעַן הָקִים אֶת בְּרִיתוֹ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לַאֲבֹתֶיךָ כַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה. (יט) וְהָיָה אִם שָׁכֹחַ תִּשְׁכַּח אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ וְהָלַכְתָּ אַחֲרֵי אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וַעֲבַדְתָּם וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתָ לָהֶם הַעִדֹתִי בָכֶם הַיּוֹם כִּי אָבֹד תֹּאבֵדוּן. (כ) כַּגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר י״י מַאֲבִיד מִפְּנֵיכֶם כֵּן תֹּאבֵדוּן עֵקֶב לֹא תִשְׁמְעוּן בְּקוֹל י״י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.

פרק ט

(א) שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל אַתָּה עֹבֵר הַיּוֹם אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּן לָבֹא לָרֶשֶׁת גּוֹיִם גְּדֹלִים וַעֲצֻמִים מִמֶּךָּ עָרִים גְּדֹלֹת וּבְצֻרֹת בַּשָּׁמָיִם. (ב) עַם גָּדוֹל וָרָם בְּנֵי עֲנָקִים אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ וְאַתָּה שָׁמַעְתָּ מִי יִתְיַצֵּב לִפְנֵי בְּנֵי עֲנָק. (ג) וְיָדַעְתָּ הַיּוֹם כִּי י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ הוּא הָעֹבֵר לְפָנֶיךָ אֵשׁ אֹכְלָה הוּא יַשְׁמִידֵם וְהוּא יַכְנִיעֵם לְפָנֶיךָ וְהוֹרַשְׁתָּם וְהַאֲבַדְתָּם מַהֵר כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר י״י לָךְ. (ד) אַל תֹּאמַר בִּלְבָבְךָ בַּהֲדֹף י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֹתָם מִלְּפָנֶיךָ לֵאמֹר בְּצִדְקָתִי הֱבִיאַנִי י״י לָרֶשֶׁת אֶת הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת וּבְרִשְׁעַת הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה י״י מוֹרִישָׁם מִפָּנֶיךָ. (ה) לֹא בְצִדְקָתְךָ וּבְיֹשֶׁר לְבָבְךָ אַתָּה בָא לָרֶשֶׁת אֶת אַרְצָם כִּי בְּרִשְׁעַת הַגּוֹיִם הָאֵלֶּה י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ מוֹרִישָׁם מִפָּנֶיךָ וּלְמַעַן הָקִים אֶת הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע י״י לַאֲבֹתֶיךָ לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב. (ו) וְיָדַעְתָּ כִּי לֹא בְצִדְקָתְךָ י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ אֶת הָאָרֶץ הַטּוֹבָה הַזֹּאת לְרִשְׁתָּהּ כִּי עַם קְשֵׁה עֹרֶף אָתָּה. (ז) זְכֹר אַל תִּשְׁכַּח אֵת אֲשֶׁר הִקְצַפְתָּ אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ בַּמִּדְבָּר לְמִן הַיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר יָצָאתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם עַד בֹּאֲכֶם עַד הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה מַמְרִים הֱיִיתֶם עִם י״י. (ח) וּבְחֹרֵב הִקְצַפְתֶּם אֶת י״י וַיִּתְאַנַּף י״י בָּכֶם לְהַשְׁמִיד אֶתְכֶם. (ט) בַּעֲלֹתִי הָהָרָה לָקַחַת לוּחֹת הָאֲבָנִים לוּחֹת הַבְּרִית אֲשֶׁר כָּרַת י״י עִמָּכֶם וָאֵשֵׁב בָּהָר אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לַיְלָה לֶחֶם לֹא אָכַלְתִּי וּמַיִם לֹא שָׁתִיתִי. (י) וַיִּתֵּן י״י אֵלַי אֶת שְׁנֵי לוּחֹת הָאֲבָנִים כְּתֻבִים בְּאֶצְבַּע אֱלֹהִים וַעֲלֵיהֶם כְּכׇל הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר י״י עִמָּכֶם בָּהָר מִתּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ בְּיוֹם הַקָּהָל. (יא) וַיְהִי מִקֵּץ אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לָיְלָה נָתַן י״י אֵלַי אֶת שְׁנֵי לֻחֹת הָאֲבָנִים לֻחוֹת הַבְּרִית. (יב) וַיֹּאמֶר י״י אֵלַי קוּם רֵד מַהֵר מִזֶּה כִּי שִׁחֵת עַמְּךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ מִמִּצְרָיִם סָרוּ מַהֵר מִן הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִם עָשׂוּ לָהֶם מַסֵּכָה. (יג) וַיֹּאמֶר י״י אֵלַי לֵאמֹר רָאִיתִי אֶת הָעָם הַזֶּה וְהִנֵּה עַם קְשֵׁה עֹרֶף הוּא. (יד) הֶרֶף מִמֶּנִּי וְאַשְׁמִידֵם וְאֶמְחֶה אֶת שְׁמָם מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמָיִם וְאֶעֱשֶׂה אוֹתְךָ לְגוֹי עָצוּם וָרָב מִמֶּנּוּ. (טו) וָאֵפֶן וָאֵרֵד מִן הָהָר וְהָהָר בֹּעֵר בָּאֵשׁ וּשְׁנֵי לוּחֹת הַבְּרִית עַל שְׁתֵּי יָדָי. (טז) וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה חֲטָאתֶם לַי״י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם עֲשִׂיתֶם לָכֶם עֵגֶל מַסֵּכָה סַרְתֶּם מַהֵר מִן הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה י״י אֶתְכֶם. (יז) וָאֶתְפֹּשׂ בִּשְׁנֵי הַלֻּחֹת וָאַשְׁלִכֵם מֵעַל שְׁתֵּי יָדָי וָאֲשַׁבְּרֵם לְעֵינֵיכֶם. (יח) וָאֶתְנַפַּל לִפְנֵי י״י כָּרִאשֹׁנָה אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לַיְלָה לֶחֶם לֹא אָכַלְתִּי וּמַיִם לֹא שָׁתִיתִי עַל כׇּל חַטַּאתְכֶם אֲשֶׁר חֲטָאתֶם לַעֲשׂוֹת הָרַע בְּעֵינֵי י״י לְהַכְעִיסוֹ. (יט) כִּי יָגֹרְתִּי מִפְּנֵי הָאַף וְהַחֵמָה אֲשֶׁר קָצַף י״י עֲלֵיכֶם לְהַשְׁמִיד אֶתְכֶם וַיִּשְׁמַע י״י אֵלַי גַּם בַּפַּעַם הַהִוא. (כ) וּבְאַהֲרֹן הִתְאַנַּף י״י מְאֹד לְהַשְׁמִידוֹ וָאֶתְפַּלֵּל גַּם בְּעַד אַהֲרֹן בָּעֵת הַהִוא. (כא) וְאֶת חַטַּאתְכֶם אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם אֶת הָעֵגֶל לָקַחְתִּי וָאֶשְׂרֹף אֹתוֹ בָּאֵשׁ וָאֶכֹּת אֹתוֹ טָחוֹן הֵיטֵב עַד אֲשֶׁר דַּק לְעָפָר וָאַשְׁלִךְ אֶת עֲפָרוֹ אֶל הַנַּחַל הַיֹּרֵד מִן הָהָר. (כב) וּבְתַבְעֵרָה וּבְמַסָּה וּבְקִבְרֹת הַתַּאֲוָה מַקְצִפִים הֱיִיתֶם אֶת י״י. (כג) וּבִשְׁלֹחַ י״י אֶתְכֶם מִקָּדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ לֵאמֹר עֲלוּ וּרְשׁוּ אֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לָכֶם וַתַּמְרוּ אֶת פִּי י״י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם וְלֹא הֶאֱמַנְתֶּם לוֹ וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם בְּקֹלוֹ. (כד) מַמְרִים הֱיִיתֶם עִם י״י מִיּוֹם דַּעְתִּי אֶתְכֶם. (כה) וָאֶתְנַפַּל לִפְנֵי י״י אֵת אַרְבָּעִים הַיּוֹם וְאֶת אַרְבָּעִים הַלַּיְלָה אֲשֶׁר הִתְנַפָּלְתִּי כִּי אָמַר י״י לְהַשְׁמִיד אֶתְכֶם. (כו) וָאֶתְפַּלֵּל אֶל י״י וָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יֱ־הֹוִה אַל תַּשְׁחֵת עַמְּךָ וְנַחֲלָתְךָ אֲשֶׁר פָּדִיתָ בְּגׇדְלֶךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ מִמִּצְרַיִם בְּיָד חֲזָקָה. (כז) זְכֹר לַעֲבָדֶיךָ לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב אַל תֵּפֶן אֶל קְשִׁי הָעָם הַזֶּה וְאֶל רִשְׁעוֹ וְאֶל חַטָּאתוֹ. (כח) פֶּן יֹאמְרוּ הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָנוּ מִשָּׁם מִבְּלִי יְכֹלֶת י״י לַהֲבִיאָם אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר לָהֶם וּמִשִּׂנְאָתוֹ אוֹתָם הוֹצִיאָם לַהֲמִתָם בַּמִּדְבָּר. (כט) וְהֵם עַמְּךָ וְנַחֲלָתֶךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ בְּכֹחֲךָ הַגָּדֹל וּבִזְרֹעֲךָ הַנְּטוּיָה.

פרק י

(א) בָּעֵת הַהִוא אָמַר י״י אֵלַי פְּסׇל לְךָ שְׁנֵי לוּחֹת אֲבָנִים כָּרִאשֹׁנִים וַעֲלֵה אֵלַי הָהָרָה וְעָשִׂיתָ לְּךָ אֲרוֹן עֵץ. (ב) וְאֶכְתֹּב עַל הַלֻּחֹת אֶת הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ עַל הַלֻּחֹת הָרִאשֹׁנִים אֲשֶׁר שִׁבַּרְתָּ וְשַׂמְתָּם בָּאָרוֹן. (ג) וָאַעַשׂ אֲרוֹן עֲצֵי שִׁטִּים וָאֶפְסֹל שְׁנֵי לֻחֹת אֲבָנִים כָּרִאשֹׁנִים וָאַעַל הָהָרָה וּשְׁנֵי הַלֻּחֹת בְּיָדִי. (ד) וַיִּכְתֹּב עַל הַלֻּחֹת כַּמִּכְתָּב הָרִאשׁוֹן אֵת עֲשֶׂרֶת הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר י״י אֲלֵיכֶם בָּהָר מִתּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ בְּיוֹם הַקָּהָל וַיִּתְּנֵם י״י אֵלָי. (ה) וָאֵפֶן וָאֵרֵד מִן הָהָר וָאָשִׂם אֶת הַלֻּחֹת בָּאָרוֹן אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי וַיִּהְיוּ שָׁם כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוַּנִי י״י. (ו) וּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל נָסְעוּ מִבְּאֵרֹת בְּנֵי יַעֲקָן מוֹסֵרָה שָׁם מֵת אַהֲרֹן וַיִּקָּבֵר שָׁם וַיְכַהֵן אֶלְעָזָר בְּנוֹ תַּחְתָּיו. (ז) מִשָּׁם נָסְעוּ הַגֻּדְגֹּדָה וּמִן הַגֻּדְגֹּדָה יׇטְבָתָה אֶרֶץ נַחֲלֵי מָיִם. (ח) בָּעֵת הַהִוא הִבְדִּיל י״י אֶת שֵׁבֶט הַלֵּוִי לָשֵׂאת אֶת אֲרוֹן בְּרִית י״י לַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי י״י לְשָׁרְתוֹ וּלְבָרֵךְ בִּשְׁמוֹ עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. (ט) עַל כֵּן לֹא הָיָה לְלֵוִי חֵלֶק וְנַחֲלָה עִם אֶחָיו י״י הוּא נַחֲלָתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לוֹ. (י) וְאָנֹכִי עָמַדְתִּי בָהָר כַּיָּמִים הָרִאשֹׁנִים אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לָיְלָה וַיִּשְׁמַע י״י אֵלַי גַּם בַּפַּעַם הַהִוא לֹא אָבָה י״י הַשְׁחִיתֶךָ. (יא) וַיֹּאמֶר י״י אֵלַי קוּם לֵךְ לְמַסַּע לִפְנֵי הָעָם וְיָבֹאוּ וְיִירְשׁוּ אֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לַאֲבֹתָם לָתֵת לָהֶם. (יב) וְעַתָּה יִשְׂרָאֵל מָה י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ שֹׁאֵל מֵעִמָּךְ כִּי אִם לְיִרְאָה אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ לָלֶכֶת בְּכׇל דְּרָכָיו וּלְאַהֲבָה אֹתוֹ וְלַעֲבֹד אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ בְּכׇל לְבָבְךָ וּבְכׇל נַפְשֶׁךָ. (יג) לִשְׁמֹר אֶת מִצְוֺת י״י וְאֶת חֻקֹּתָיו אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם לְטוֹב לָךְ. (יד) הֵן לַי״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ הַשָּׁמַיִם וּשְׁמֵי הַשָּׁמָיִם הָאָרֶץ וְכׇל אֲשֶׁר בָּהּ. (טו) רַק בַּאֲבֹתֶיךָ חָשַׁק י״י לְאַהֲבָה אוֹתָם וַיִּבְחַר בְּזַרְעָם אַחֲרֵיהֶם בָּכֶם מִכׇּל הָעַמִּים כַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה. (טז) וּמַלְתֶּם אֵת עׇרְלַת לְבַבְכֶם וְעׇרְפְּכֶם לֹא תַקְשׁוּ עוֹד. (יז) כִּי י״י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם הוּא אֱלֹהֵי הָאֱלֹהִים וַאֲדֹנֵי הָאֲדֹנִים הָאֵל הַגָּדֹל הַגִּבֹּר וְהַנּוֹרָא אֲשֶׁר לֹא יִשָּׂא פָנִים וְלֹא יִקַּח שֹׁחַד. (יח) עֹשֶׂה מִשְׁפַּט יָתוֹם וְאַלְמָנָה וְאֹהֵב גֵּר לָתֶת לוֹ לֶחֶם וְשִׂמְלָה. (יט) וַאֲהַבְתֶּם אֶת הַגֵּר כִּי גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם. (כ) אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ תִּירָא אֹתוֹ תַעֲבֹד וּבוֹ תִדְבָּק וּבִשְׁמוֹ תִּשָּׁבֵעַ. (כא) הוּא תְהִלָּתְךָ וְהוּא אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה אִתְּךָ אֶת הַגְּדֹלֹת וְאֶת הַנּוֹרָאֹת הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר רָאוּ עֵינֶיךָ. פרק יא

(א) וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ וְשָׁמַרְתָּ מִשְׁמַרְתּוֹ וְחֻקֹּתָיו וּמִשְׁפָּטָיו וּמִצְוֺתָיו כׇּל הַיָּמִים. (ב) וִידַעְתֶּם הַיּוֹם כִּי לֹא אֶת בְּנֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָדְעוּ וַאֲשֶׁר לֹא רָאוּ אֶת מוּסַר י״י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֶת גׇּדְלוֹ אֶת יָדוֹ הַחֲזָקָה וּזְרֹעוֹ הַנְּטוּיָה. (ג) וְאֶת אֹתֹתָיו וְאֶת מַעֲשָׂיו אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה בְּתוֹךְ מִצְרָיִם לְפַרְעֹה מֶלֶךְ מִצְרַיִם וּלְכׇל אַרְצוֹ. (ד) וַאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לְחֵיל מִצְרַיִם לְסוּסָיו וּלְרִכְבּוֹ אֲשֶׁר הֵצִיף אֶת מֵי יַם סוּף עַל פְּנֵיהֶם בְּרׇדְפָם אַחֲרֵיכֶם וַיְאַבְּדֵם י״י עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. (ה) וַאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לָכֶם בַּמִּדְבָּר עַד בֹּאֲכֶם עַד הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה. (ו) וַאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לְדָתָן וְלַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב בֶּן רְאוּבֵן אֲשֶׁר פָּצְתָה הָאָרֶץ אֶת פִּיהָ וַתִּבְלָעֵם וְאֶת בָּתֵּיהֶם וְאֶת אׇהֳלֵיהֶם וְאֵת כׇּל הַיְקוּם אֲשֶׁר בְּרַגְלֵיהֶם בְּקֶרֶב כׇּל יִשְׂרָאֵל. (ז) כִּי עֵינֵיכֶם הָרֹאֹת אֶת כׇּל מַעֲשֵׂה י״י הַגָּדֹל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה. (ח) וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם אֶת כׇּל הַמִּצְוָה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם לְמַעַן תֶּחֶזְקוּ וּבָאתֶם וִירִשְׁתֶּם אֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם עֹבְרִים שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּהּ. (ט) וּלְמַעַן תַּאֲרִיכוּ יָמִים עַל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע י״י לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶם לָתֵת לָהֶם וּלְזַרְעָם אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ. (י) כִּי הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה בָא שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּהּ לֹא כְאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם הִוא אֲשֶׁר יְצָאתֶם מִשָּׁם אֲשֶׁר תִּזְרַע אֶת זַרְעֲךָ וְהִשְׁקִיתָ בְרַגְלְךָ כְּגַן הַיָּרָק. (יא) וְהָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם עֹבְרִים שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּהּ אֶרֶץ הָרִים וּבְקָעֹת לִמְטַר הַשָּׁמַיִם תִּשְׁתֶּה מָּיִם. (יב) אֶרֶץ אֲשֶׁר י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ דֹּרֵשׁ אֹתָהּ תָּמִיד עֵינֵי י״י אֱלֹהֶיךָ בָּהּ מֵרֵשִׁית הַשָּׁנָה וְעַד אַחֲרִית שָׁנָה. (יג) וְהָיָה אִם שָׁמֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ אֶל מִצְוֺתַי אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם הַיּוֹם לְאַהֲבָה אֶת י״י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם וּלְעׇבְדוֹ בְּכׇל לְבַבְכֶם וּבְכׇל נַפְשְׁכֶם. (יד) וְנָתַתִּי מְטַר אַרְצְכֶם בְּעִתּוֹ יוֹרֶה וּמַלְקוֹשׁ וְאָסַפְתָּ דְגָנֶךָ וְתִירֹשְׁךָ וְיִצְהָרֶךָ. (טו) וְנָתַתִּי עֵשֶׂב בְּשָׂדְךָ לִבְהֶמְתֶּךָ וְאָכַלְתָּ וְשָׂבָעְתָּ. (טז) הִשָּׁמְרוּ לָכֶם פֶּן יִפְתֶּה לְבַבְכֶם וְסַרְתֶּם וַעֲבַדְתֶּם אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶם לָהֶם. (יז) וְחָרָה אַף י״י בָּכֶם וְעָצַר אֶת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְלֹא יִהְיֶה מָטָר וְהָאֲדָמָה לֹא תִתֵּן אֶת יְבוּלָהּ וַאֲבַדְתֶּם מְהֵרָה מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הַטֹּבָה אֲשֶׁר י״י נֹתֵן לָכֶם. (יח) וְשַׂמְתֶּם אֶת דְּבָרַי אֵלֶּה עַל לְבַבְכֶם וְעַל נַפְשְׁכֶם וּקְשַׁרְתֶּם אֹתָם לְאוֹת עַל יֶדְכֶם וְהָיוּ לְטוֹטָפֹת בֵּין עֵינֵיכֶם. Chapter 7

(12) It shall happen, because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Hashem your God will keep with you the covenant and the loving kindness which He swore to your fathers. (13) And He will love you, and bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the offspring of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which He swore to your fathers to give you. (14) You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you or among your livestock. (15) Hashem will take away from you all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, He will put on you, but will lay them on all those who hate you. (16) You shall consume all the peoples whom Hashem your God shall deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them. You shall not serve their gods; for that will be a snare to you. (17) If you shall say in your heart, "These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?" (18) you shall not be afraid of them. You shall well remember what Hashem your God did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt: (19) the great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which Hashem your God brought you out. So shall Hashem your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid. (20) Moreover Hashem your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left and hide themselves shall perish from before you. (21) You shall not be scared of them; for Hashem your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God. (22) Hashem your God will cast out those nations before you by little and little; you may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field become too many for you. (23) But Hashem your God will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they are destroyed. (24) He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name perish from under the sky; no man shall be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them. (25) You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, or take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to Hashem your God. (26) You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and come under ban like it. You shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a banned thing.

Chapter 8

(1) You shall observe to do all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Hashem swore to your fathers. (2) You shall remember all the way which Hashem your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that He might humble you, to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not. (3) He humbled you, and allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn't know and which your fathers did not know; that He might make you know that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of Hashem. (4) Your clothing didn't wear out on you, and your feet did not swell, these forty years. (5) You shall consider in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so Hashem your God chastens you. (6) You shall keep the commandments of Hashem your God, to walk in his ways and to fear him. (7) For Hashem your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills; (8) a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey; (9) a land in which you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack anything in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper. (10) You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless Hashem your God for the good land which He has given you. (11) Beware lest you forget Hashem your God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you this day, (12) lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and lived therein, (13) and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, (14) that your heart becomes proud, and you forget Hashem your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, (15) who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint; (16) who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn't know; that He might humble you, and that He might test you, to do you good at your latter end. (17) Lest you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth." (18) But you shall remember Hashem your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth; that He may establish his covenant which He swore to your fathers, as at this day. (19) It shall be, if you shall forget Hashem your God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. (20) As the nations that Hashem makes to perish before you, so you shall perish; because you wouldn't listen to the voice of Hashem your God.

Chapter 9

(1) Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky, (2) a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, "Who can stand before the sons of Anak?" (3) Know therefore this day, that Hashem your God is He who goes over before you as a devouring fire; He will destroy them, and He will bring them down before you; so you shall drive them out, and make them perish quickly, as Hashem has spoken to you. (4) Don't say in your heart, when Hashem your God has thrust them out from before you, saying, "For my righteousness Hashem has brought me in to possess this land"; because Hashem drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations. (5) Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Hashem your God drives them out from before you, and that He may establish the word which Hashem swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. (6) Know therefore, that Hashem your God doesn't give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stiff-necked people. (7) Remember, don't forget, how you provoked Hashem your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Hashem. (8) Also in Horeb you provoked Hashem to wrath, and Hashem was angry with you to destroy you. (9) When I went up onto the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which Hashem made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I did not eat bread or drink water. (10) Hashem delivered to me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words which Hashem spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. (11) It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Hashem gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. (12) Hashem said to me, "Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten image." (13) Furthermore Hashem spoke to me, saying, "I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people. (14) Leave Me, that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they." (15) So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire; and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. (16) I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Hashem your God; you had made yourselves a molten calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way which Hashem had commanded you. (17) I took hold of the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes. (18) I fell down before Hashem, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I did not eat bread or drink water because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Hashem, to provoke him to anger. (19) For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Hashem was angry against you to destroy you. But Hashem listened to me that time also. (20) Hashem was very angry with Aaron to destroy him, and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time. (21) I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain. (22) At Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah, you provoked Hashem to wrath. (23) When Hashem sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, "Go up and possess the land which I have given you", then you rebelled against the commandment of Hashem your God, and you didn't believe him or listen to his voice. (24) You have been rebellious against Hashem from the day that I knew you. (25) So I fell down before Hashem, the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Hashem had said He would destroy you. (26) I prayed to Hashem, and said, "Lord Hashem, don't destroy your people and your inheritance, that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. (27) Remember Your servants, Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov. Do not look at the stubbornness of this people, or to their wickedness, or to their sin, (28) lest the land you brought us out from say, 'Because Hashem was not able to bring them into the land which He promised to them, and because He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.' (29) Yet they are your people and your inheritance which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm."

Chapter 10

(1) At that time Hashem said to me, "Cut two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me onto the mountain, and make an ark of wood. (2) I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark." (3) So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the first, and went up onto the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand. (4) He wrote on the tablets, according to the first writing, the ten statements which Hashem spoke to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and Hashem gave them to me. (5) I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are as Hashem commanded me. (6) The Children of Israel traveled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son served in the priest's office in his place. (7) From there they traveled to Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water. (8) At that time Hashem set apart the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Hashem, to stand before Hashem to serve him, and to bless in His name, to this day. (9) Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers; Hashem is his inheritance, as Hashem your God spoke to him. (10) I stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, and Hashem listened to me that time also; Hashem was not willing to destroy you. (11) Hashem said to me, "Arise, go on your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them." (12) Now, Israel, what does Hashem your God require of you, but to fear Hashem your God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve Hashem your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (13) to keep the commandments of Hashem, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good? (14) Behold, to Hashem your God belongs heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth, with all that is in it. (15) Only Hashem delighted in your fathers to love them, and He chose their seed after them, even you above all peoples, as at this day. (16) Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. (17) For Hashem your God, He is God of gods, and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who does not show partiality or take reward. (18) He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the foreigner, to give him food and clothing. (19) Therefore love the foreigner; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. (20) You shall fear Hashem your God. You shall serve him, and you shall cling to him, and you shall swear by His name. (21) He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things, which your eyes have seen. (22) Your fathers went down into Egypt with seventy persons; and now Hashem your God has made you as many as the stars of the sky.

Chapter 11

(1) Therefore you shall love Hashem your God, and keep his instructions, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments, always. (2) Know this day, for I don't speak with your children who have not known and who have not seen the chastisement of Hashem your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm, (3) and his signs and his works which He did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land; (4) and what He did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how He made the water of the Red Sea overflow on them as they pursued you, and how Hashem has destroyed them to this day; (5) and what He did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place; (6) and what He did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel. (7) But your eyes have seen all the great work of Hashem which He did. (8) Therefore you shall keep all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you pass over to possess it; (9) and that you may prolong your days in the land which Hashem swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey. (10) For the land which you go in to possess isn't as the land of Egypt that you came out from, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs. (11) But the land which you pass over to possess, is a land of hills and valleys which drinks water of the rain of the sky, (12) a land which Hashem your God cares for. The eyes of Hashem your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year. The two units serve as bookends to the first part of Moshe's legal speech (Devarim 6-11) which focuses on the fundamentals of loving God and forging a relationship with Him. to My commandments that I command you today, to love Hashemto love Hashem | לְאַהֲבָה אֶת י"י – For discussion of what the commandment to "love God" entails, and whether it proscribes an emotion, a thought, or an action, see Ahavat Hashem. your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul,⁠with all your heart and all your soul | בְּכׇל לְבַבְכֶם וּבְכׇל נַפְשְׁכֶם – For discussion of these terms, see the notes on Devarim 6:5. (14) then I will give the rain of your land in its time, the early rainthe early rain | יוֹרֶה – This refers to the first rains of the season that fall in Marcheshvan. See Rashi that the name is related to the verb "רוה", to water or saturate, and the rain is so named for it wets the land that had become dry over the summer. Alternatively, the noun is connected to the root "ירה", to show or indicate, and the rain is so called since it is a sign of a good year (Ibn Ezra) or since it indicates that the sowing season has arrived (R"Y Bekhor Shor). and the late rain,⁠and the late rain | וּמַלְקוֹשׁ – This refers to the last rains of the season that fall in Nissan (see Yoel 2:23 and Radak there). See R"Y Bekhor Shor that the name is derived from the fact that the rain serves to make the grain full (מלא) on its stalk ("קש"). [See Rashi similarly.] and you shall gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. (15) I will give herbs in your field for your animals, and you shall eat and be sated. (16) Be careful lest your heart be seducedbe seduced | יִפְתֶּה – Alternatively: "be fooled" (Chizkuni, Shadal). R"Y Bekhor Shor explains that the individual might be seduced by his evil inclination due to the abundant blessings described in the previous verse. and you turn aside and serve other gods and bow down to them, (17) and Hashem will get angryand Hashem will get angry | וְחָרָה אַף י"י – More literally: "And Hashem's anger will burn against you". As "אף" also refers to a nose, the phrase evokes an image of one who is smoking from the nose due to the intensity of his anger. at you, and He will close up the heavens and there will not be rain, and the land will not give forth its produce, and you will perish quickly from upon the good landand you will perish quickly from upon the land | וַאֲבַדְתֶּם מְהֵרָה מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ – See Rashi and others that the connotation is that the people will be exiled, and compare usage of the word in Devarim 26:5 and Yeshayahu 27:13, where it refers to one who is "lost and wandering". that Hashem gives to you. (18) You shall set these words upon your hearts and upon your souls, and you shall tie them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as bandsas bands | לְטֹטָפֹת – For various understandings of the term, see the notes on Shemot 13:9 and 16. between your eyes. D"Z Hoffmann that the connotation is: "forever". (22) For if you shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Hashem your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him, (23) then Hashem will drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. (24) Every place upon which the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours, from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the western sea shall be your border. (25) No man shall be able to stand before you. Hashem your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you shall tread on, as He has spoken to you.
