Parashat Vaetchanan – Opening Questions
- Though we are told that the revelation at Sinai was a "face to face" encounter, Moshe simultaneously says, "אָנֹכִי עֹמֵד בֵּין י"י וּבֵינֵיכֶם בָּעֵת הַהִוא לְהַגִּיד לָכֶם אֶת דְּבַר י"י ". Did the nation hear the Decalogue directly from hashem, or was Moshe an intermediary?
- How can the many differences between the versions of the Aseret HaDibrot in Shemot and Devarim be explained?
- What does it mean to love Hashem? Can emotions be commanded?
- How does the principle of "פֹּקֵד עֲוֹן אָבוֹת עַל בָּנִים" manifest Divine justice? Does Hashem, at times, punish innocents for the sins of their parents?
