Bereshit 16:7-13בראשית ט״ז:ז׳-י״ג

(7) The angel of Hashem found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. (8) He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s handmaid, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.” (9) The angel of Hashem said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.” (10) The angel of Hashem said to her, “I will greatly multiply your seed, that they will not be numbered for multitude.” (11) The angel of Hashem said to her, “Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Hashem has heard your affliction. (12) He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposite all of his brothers.” (13) She called the name of Hashem who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees,” for she said, “Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”

(ז) וַיִּמְצָאָהּ מַלְאַךְ י"י עַל עֵין הַמַּיִם בַּמִּדְבָּר עַל הָעַיִן בְּדֶרֶךְ שׁוּר. (ח) וַיֹּאמַר הָגָר שִׁפְחַת שָׂרַי אֵי מִזֶּה בָאת וְאָנָה תֵלֵכִי וַתֹּאמֶר מִפְּנֵי שָׂרַי גְּבִרְתִּי אָנֹכִי בֹּרַחַת. (ט) וַיֹּאמֶר לָהּ מַלְאַךְ י"י שׁוּבִי אֶל גְּבִרְתֵּךְ וְהִתְעַנִּי תַּחַת יָדֶיהָ. (י) וַיֹּאמֶר לָהּ מַלְאַךְ י"י הַרְבָּה אַרְבֶּה אֶת זַרְעֵךְ וְלֹא יִסָּפֵר מֵרֹב. (יא) וַיֹּאמֶר לָהּ מַלְאַךְ י"י הִנָּךְ הָרָה וְיֹלַדְתְּ בֵּן וְקָרָאת שְׁמוֹ יִשְׁמָעֵאל כִּי שָׁמַע י"י אֶל עׇנְיֵךְ. (יב) וְהוּא יִהְיֶה פֶּרֶא אָדָם יָדוֹ בַכֹּל וְיַד כֹּל בּוֹ וְעַל פְּנֵי כׇל אֶחָיו יִשְׁכֹּן. (יג) וַתִּקְרָא שֵׁם י"י הַדֹּבֵר אֵלֶיהָ אַתָּה אֵל רֳאִי כִּי אָמְרָה הֲגַם הֲלֹם רָאִיתִי אַחֲרֵי רֹאִי.

Bereshit 19:1-22בראשית י״ט:א׳-כ״ב

(1) The two angels came to Sodom at evening. Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. He bowed himself with his face to the earth, (2) and he said, “See now, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, stay all night, wash your feet, and you can rise up early, and go on your way.” They said, “No, but we will stay in the street all night.” (3) He urged them greatly, and they came in with him, and entered into his house. He made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. (4) But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter. (5) They called to Lot, and said to him, “Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may have sex with them.” (6) Lot went out to them to the door, and shut the door after him. (7) He said, “Please, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. (8) See now, I have two virgin daughters. Please let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them what seems good to you. Only do not do anything to these men, because they have come under the shadow of my roof.” (9) They said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one fellow came in to live as a foreigner, and he appoints himself a judge. Now will we deal worse with you, than with them!” They pressed hard on the man Lot, and drew near to break the door. (10) But the men reached out their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. (11) They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door. (12) The men said to Lot, “Do you have anybody else here? Sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of the place: (13) for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before Hashem that Hashem has sent us to destroy it.” (14) Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, “Get up! Get out of this place, for Hashem will destroy the city.” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking. (15) When the morning came, then the angels hurried Lot, saying, “Get up! Take your wife, and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city.” (16) But he lingered; and the men grabbed his hand, his wife’s hand, and his two daughters’ hands, Hashem being merciful to him; and they took him out, and set him outside of the city. (17) It came to pass, when they had taken them out, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed!” (18) Lot said to them, “Oh, not so, my lord. (19) See now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your loving kindness, which you have shown to me in saving my life. I cannot escape to the mountain, lest evil overtake me, and I die. (20) See now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there, is it not a little one?, and my soul will live.” (21) He said to him, “Behold, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. (22) Hurry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you get there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

(א) וַיָּבֹאוּ שְׁנֵי הַמַּלְאָכִים סְדֹמָה בָּעֶרֶב וְלוֹט יֹשֵׁב בְּשַׁעַר סְדֹם וַיַּרְא לוֹט וַיָּקׇם לִקְרָאתָם וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ אַפַּיִם אָרְצָה. (ב) וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֶּה נָּא אֲדֹנַי סוּרוּ נָא אֶל בֵּית עַבְדְּכֶם וְלִינוּ וְרַחֲצוּ רַגְלֵיכֶם וְהִשְׁכַּמְתֶּם וַהֲלַכְתֶּם לְדַרְכְּכֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹּא כִּי בָרְחוֹב נָלִין. (ג) וַיִּפְצַר בָּם מְאֹד וַיָּסֻרוּ אֵלָיו וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל בֵּיתוֹ וַיַּעַשׂ לָהֶם מִשְׁתֶּה וּמַצּוֹת אָפָה וַיֹּאכֵלוּ. (ד) טֶרֶם יִשְׁכָּבוּ וְאַנְשֵׁי הָעִיר אַנְשֵׁי סְדֹם נָסַבּוּ עַל הַבַּיִת מִנַּעַר וְעַד זָקֵן כׇּל הָעָם מִקָּצֶה. (ה) וַיִּקְרְאוּ אֶל לוֹט וַיֹּאמְרוּ לוֹ אַיֵּה הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר בָּאוּ אֵלֶיךָ הַלָּיְלָה הוֹצִיאֵם אֵלֵינוּ וְנֵדְעָה אֹתָם. (ו) וַיֵּצֵא אֲלֵהֶם לוֹט הַפֶּתְחָה וְהַדֶּלֶת סָגַר אַחֲרָיו. (ז) וַיֹּאמַר אַל נָא אַחַי תָּרֵעוּ. (ח) הִנֵּה נָא לִי שְׁתֵּי בָנוֹת אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָדְעוּ אִישׁ אוֹצִיאָה נָּא אֶתְהֶן אֲלֵיכֶם וַעֲשׂוּ לָהֶן כַּטּוֹב בְּעֵינֵיכֶם רַק לָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵל אַל תַּעֲשׂוּ דָבָר כִּי עַל כֵּן בָּאוּ בְּצֵל קֹרָתִי. (ט) וַיֹּאמְרוּ גֶּשׁ הָלְאָה וַיֹּאמְרוּ הָאֶחָד בָּא לָגוּר וַיִּשְׁפֹּט שָׁפוֹט עַתָּה נָרַע לְךָ מֵהֶם וַיִּפְצְרוּ בָאִישׁ בְּלוֹט מְאֹד וַיִּגְּשׁוּ לִשְׁבֹּר הַדָּלֶת. (י) וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים אֶת יָדָם וַיָּבִיאוּ אֶת לוֹט אֲלֵיהֶם הַבָּיְתָה וְאֶת הַדֶּלֶת סָגָרוּ. (יא) וְאֶת הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר פֶּתַח הַבַּיִת הִכּוּ בַּסַּנְוֵרִים מִקָּטֹן וְעַד גָּדוֹל וַיִּלְאוּ לִמְצֹא הַפָּתַח. (יב) וַיֹּאמְרוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים אֶל לוֹט עֹד מִי לְךָ פֹה חָתָן וּבָנֶיךָ וּבְנֹתֶיךָ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר לְךָ בָּעִיר הוֹצֵא מִן הַמָּקוֹם. (יג) כִּי מַשְׁחִתִים אֲנַחְנוּ אֶת הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה כִּי גָדְלָה צַעֲקָתָם אֶת פְּנֵי י״י וַיְשַׁלְּחֵנוּ י״י לְשַׁחֲתָהּ. (יד) וַיֵּצֵא לוֹט וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל חֲתָנָיו לֹקְחֵי בְנֹתָיו וַיֹּאמֶר קוּמוּ צְּאוּ מִן הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה כִּי מַשְׁחִית י״י אֶת הָעִיר וַיְהִי כִמְצַחֵק בְּעֵינֵי חֲתָנָיו. (טו) וּכְמוֹ הַשַּׁחַר עָלָה וַיָּאִיצוּ הַמַּלְאָכִים בְּלוֹט לֵאמֹר קוּם קַח אֶת אִשְׁתְּךָ וְאֶת שְׁתֵּי בְנֹתֶיךָ הַנִּמְצָאֹת פֶּן תִּסָּפֶה בַּעֲוֺן הָעִיר. (טז) וַיִּתְמַהְמָהּ וַיַּחֲזִיקוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים בְּיָדוֹ וּבְיַד אִשְׁתּוֹ וּבְיַד שְׁתֵּי בְנֹתָיו בְּחֶמְלַת י״י עָלָיו וַיֹּצִאֻהוּ וַיַּנִּחֻהוּ מִחוּץ לָעִיר. (יז) וַיְהִי כְהוֹצִיאָם אֹתָם הַחוּצָה וַיֹּאמֶר הִמָּלֵט עַל נַפְשֶׁךָ אַל תַּבִּיט אַחֲרֶיךָ וְאַל תַּעֲמֹד בְּכׇל הַכִּכָּר הָהָרָה הִמָּלֵט פֶּן תִּסָּפֶה. (יח) וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹט אֲלֵהֶם אַל נָא אֲדֹנָי. (יט) הִנֵּה נָא מָצָא עַבְדְּךָ חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ וַתַּגְדֵּל חַסְדְּךָ אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתָ עִמָּדִי לְהַחֲיוֹת אֶת נַפְשִׁי וְאָנֹכִי לֹא אוּכַל לְהִמָּלֵט הָהָרָה פֶּן תִּדְבָּקַנִי הָרָעָה וָמַתִּי. (כ) הִנֵּה נָא הָעִיר הַזֹּאת קְרֹבָה לָנוּס שָׁמָּה וְהִוא מִצְעָר אִמָּלְטָה נָּא שָׁמָּה הֲלֹא מִצְעָר הִוא וּתְחִי נַפְשִׁי. (כא) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הִנֵּה נָשָׂאתִי פָנֶיךָ גַּם לַדָּבָר הַזֶּה לְבִלְתִּי הׇפְכִּי אֶת הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ. (כב) מַהֵר הִמָּלֵט שָׁמָּה כִּי לֹא אוּכַל לַעֲשׂוֹת דָּבָר עַד בֹּאֲךָ שָׁמָּה עַל כֵּן קָרָא שֵׁם הָעִיר צוֹעַר.

Bereshit 21:17-18בראשית כ״א:י״ז-י״ח

(17) God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Do not be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is. (18) Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation.”

(יז) וַיִּשְׁמַע אֱלֹהִים אֶת קוֹל הַנַּעַר וַיִּקְרָא מַלְאַךְ אֱלֹהִים אֶל הָגָר מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיֹּאמֶר לָהּ מַה לָּךְ הָגָר אַל תִּירְאִי כִּי שָׁמַע אֱלֹהִים אֶל קוֹל הַנַּעַר בַּאֲשֶׁר הוּא שָׁם. (יח) קוּמִי שְׂאִי אֶת הַנַּעַר וְהַחֲזִיקִי אֶת יָדֵךְ בּוֹ כִּי לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל אֲשִׂימֶנּוּ.

Bereshit 22:11-18בראשית כ״ב:י״א-י״ח

(11) The angel of Hashem called to him out of the sky, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.” (12) He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” (13) Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son. (14) Abraham called the name of that place "Hashem will see", as it is said to this day, “On Hashem’s mountain, it will be provided.” (15) The angel of Hashem called to Abraham a second time out of the sky, (16) and said, “I have sworn by myself, says Hashem, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, (17) that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your seed greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your seed will possess the gate of his enemies. (18) In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.”

(יא) וַיִּקְרָא אֵלָיו מַלְאַךְ י"י מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָהָם אַבְרָהָם וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי. (יב) וַיֹּאמֶר אַל תִּשְׁלַח יָדְךָ אֶל הַנַּעַר וְאַל תַּעַשׂ לוֹ מְאוּמָה כִּי עַתָּה יָדַעְתִּי כִּי יְרֵא אֱלֹהִים אַתָּה וְלֹא חָשַׂכְתָּ אֶת בִּנְךָ אֶת יְחִידְךָ מִמֶּנִּי. (יג) וַיִּשָּׂא אַבְרָהָם אֶת עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא וְהִנֵּה אַיִל אַחַר נֶאֱחַז בַּסְּבַךְ בְּקַרְנָיו וַיֵּלֶךְ אַבְרָהָם וַיִּקַּח אֶת הָאַיִל וַיַּעֲלֵהוּ לְעֹלָה תַּחַת בְּנוֹ. (יד) וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם שֵׁם הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא י"י יִרְאֶה אֲשֶׁר יֵאָמֵר הַיּוֹם בְּהַר י"י יֵרָאֶה. (טו) וַיִּקְרָא מַלְאַךְ י"י אֶל אַבְרָהָם שֵׁנִית מִן הַשָּׁמָיִם. (טז) וַיֹּאמֶר בִּי נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי נְאֻם י"י כִּי יַעַן אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתָ אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה וְלֹא חָשַׂכְתָּ אֶת בִּנְךָ אֶת יְחִידֶךָ. (יז) כִּי בָרֵךְ אֲבָרֶכְךָ וְהַרְבָּה אַרְבֶּה אֶת זַרְעֲךָ כְּכוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם וְכַחוֹל אֲשֶׁר עַל שְׂפַת הַיָּם וְיִרַשׁ זַרְעֲךָ אֵת שַׁעַר אֹיְבָיו. (יח) וְהִתְבָּרְכוּ בְזַרְעֲךָ כֹּל גּוֹיֵי הָאָרֶץ עֵקֶב אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְתָּ בְּקֹלִי.

Bereshit 24:7בראשית כ״ד:ז׳

Hashem, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘I will give this land to your seed .’ He will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

י"י אֱלֹהֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם אֲשֶׁר לְקָחַנִי מִבֵּית אָבִי וּמֵאֶרֶץ מוֹלַדְתִּי וַאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר לִי וַאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע לִי לֵאמֹר לְזַרְעֲךָ אֶתֵּן אֶת הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת הוּא יִשְׁלַח מַלְאָכוֹ לְפָנֶיךָ וְלָקַחְתָּ אִשָּׁה לִבְנִי מִשָּׁם.

Bereshit 28:10-13בראשית כ״ח:י׳-י״ג

(10) And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. (11) And he lighted upon the place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep. (12) And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. (13) And, behold, the Lord stood beside him, and said: 'I am the Lord, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

(י) וַיֵּצֵא יַעֲקֹב מִבְּאֵר שָׁבַע וַיֵּלֶךְ חָרָנָה. (יא) וַיִּפְגַּע בַּמָּקוֹם וַיָּלֶן שָׁם כִּי בָא הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ וַיִּקַּח מֵאַבְנֵי הַמָּקוֹם וַיָּשֶׂם מְרַאֲשֹׁתָיו וַיִּשְׁכַּב בַּמָּקוֹם הַהוּא. (יב) וַיַּחֲלֹם וְהִנֵּה סֻלָּם מֻצָּב אַרְצָה וְרֹאשׁוֹ מַגִּיעַ הַשָּׁמָיְמָה וְהִנֵּה מַלְאֲכֵי אֱלֹהִים עֹלִים וְיֹרְדִים בּוֹ. (יג) וְהִנֵּה י"י נִצָּב עָלָיו וַיֹּאמַר אֲנִי י"י אֱלֹהֵי אַבְרָהָם אָבִיךָ וֵאלֹהֵי יִצְחָק הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה שֹׁכֵב עָלֶיהָ לְךָ אֶתְּנֶנָּה וּלְזַרְעֶךָ.

Bereshit 31:10-13בראשית ל״א:י׳-י״ג

(10) It happened during mating season that I lifted up my eyes, and saw in a dream, and behold, the male goats which leaped on the flock were streaked, speckled, and grizzled. (11) The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am.’ (12) He said, ‘Now lift up your eyes, and behold, all the male goats which leap on the flock are streaked, speckled, and grizzled, for I have seen all that Laban does to you. (13) I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.’”

(י) וַיְהִי בְּעֵת יַחֵם הַצֹּאן וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֵרֶא בַּחֲלוֹם וְהִנֵּה הָעַתֻּדִים הָעֹלִים עַל הַצֹּאן עֲקֻדִּים נְקֻדִּים וּבְרֻדִּים. (יא) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים בַּחֲלוֹם יַעֲקֹב וָאֹמַר הִנֵּנִי. (יב) וַיֹּאמֶר שָׂא נָא עֵינֶיךָ וּרְאֵה כׇּל הָעַתֻּדִים הָעֹלִים עַל הַצֹּאן עֲקֻדִּים נְקֻדִּים וּבְרֻדִּים כִּי רָאִיתִי אֵת כׇּל אֲשֶׁר לָבָן עֹשֶׂה לָּךְ. (יג) אָנֹכִי הָאֵל בֵּית אֵל אֲשֶׁר מָשַׁחְתָּ שָּׁם מַצֵּבָה אֲשֶׁר נָדַרְתָּ לִּי שָׁם נֶדֶר עַתָּה קוּם צֵא מִן הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת וְשׁוּב אֶל אֶרֶץ מוֹלַדְתֶּךָ.

Bereshit 32:2-3בראשית ל״ב:ב׳-ג׳

(2) Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. (3) When he saw them, Jacob said, “This is God’s army.” He called the name of that place Mahanaim.

(ב) וְיַעֲקֹב הָלַךְ לְדַרְכּוֹ וַיִּפְגְּעוּ בוֹ מַלְאֲכֵי אֱלֹהִים. (ג) וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב כַּאֲשֶׁר רָאָם מַחֲנֵה אֱלֹהִים זֶה וַיִּקְרָא שֵׁם הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא מַחֲנָיִם.

Bereshit 32:25-31בראשית ל״ב:כ״ה-ל״א

(25) Jacob was left alone, and wrestled with a man there until the breaking of the day. (26) When he saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained, as he wrestled. (27) The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I will not let you go, unless you bless me.” (28) He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” (29) He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.” (30) Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” He blessed him there. (31) Jacob called the name of the place Peniel : for, he said, “I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

(כה) וַיִּוָּתֵר יַעֲקֹב לְבַדּוֹ וַיֵּאָבֵק אִישׁ עִמּוֹ עַד עֲלוֹת הַשָּׁחַר. (כו) וַיַּרְא כִּי לֹא יָכֹל לוֹ וַיִּגַּע בְּכַף יְרֵכוֹ וַתֵּקַע כַּף יֶרֶךְ יַעֲקֹב בְּהֵאָבְקוֹ עִמּוֹ. (כז) וַיֹּאמֶר שַׁלְּחֵנִי כִּי עָלָה הַשָּׁחַר וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אֲשַׁלֵּחֲךָ כִּי אִם בֵּרַכְתָּנִי. (כח) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו מַה שְּׁמֶךָ וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב. (כט) וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא יַעֲקֹב יֵאָמֵר עוֹד שִׁמְךָ כִּי אִם יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי שָׂרִיתָ עִם אֱלֹהִים וְעִם אֲנָשִׁים וַתּוּכָל. (ל) וַיִּשְׁאַל יַעֲקֹב וַיֹּאמֶר הַגִּידָה נָּא שְׁמֶךָ וַיֹּאמֶר לָמָּה זֶּה תִּשְׁאַל לִשְׁמִי וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתוֹ שָׁם. (לא) וַיִּקְרָא יַעֲקֹב שֵׁם הַמָּקוֹם פְּנִיאֵל כִּי רָאִיתִי אֱלֹהִים פָּנִים אֶל פָּנִים וַתִּנָּצֵל נַפְשִׁי.

Bereshit 48:15-16בראשית מ״ח:ט״ו-ט״ז

(15) He blessed Joseph, and said, “The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long to this day, (16) the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. Let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”

(טו) וַיְבָרֶךְ אֶת יוֹסֵף וַיֹּאמַר הָאֱלֹהִים אֲשֶׁר הִתְהַלְּכוּ אֲבֹתַי לְפָנָיו אַבְרָהָם וְיִצְחָק הָאֱלֹהִים הָרֹעֶה אֹתִי מֵעוֹדִי עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. (טז) הַמַּלְאָךְ הַגֹּאֵל אֹתִי מִכׇּל רָע יְבָרֵךְ אֶת הַנְּעָרִים וְיִקָּרֵא בָהֶם שְׁמִי וְשֵׁם אֲבֹתַי אַבְרָהָם וְיִצְחָק וְיִדְגּוּ לָרֹב בְּקֶרֶב הָאָרֶץ.

Shemot 3:1-4שמות ג׳:א׳-ד׳

(1) Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the farthest end of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto Horeb. (2) And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. (3) And Moses said: 'I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.' (4) And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said: 'Moses, Moses.' And he said: 'Here am I.'

(א) וּמֹשֶׁה הָיָה רֹעֶה אֶת צֹאן יִתְרוֹ חֹתְנוֹ כֹּהֵן מִדְיָן וַיִּנְהַג אֶת הַצֹּאן אַחַר הַמִּדְבָּר וַיָּבֹא אֶל הַר הָאֱלֹהִים חֹרֵבָה. (ב) וַיֵּרָא מַלְאַךְ י"י אֵלָיו בְּלַבַּת אֵשׁ מִתּוֹךְ הַסְּנֶה וַיַּרְא וְהִנֵּה הַסְּנֶה בֹּעֵר בָּאֵשׁ וְהַסְּנֶה אֵינֶנּוּ אֻכָּל. (ג) וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אָסֻרָה נָּא וְאֶרְאֶה אֶת הַמַּרְאֶה הַגָּדֹל הַזֶּה מַדּוּעַ לֹא יִבְעַר הַסְּנֶה. (ד) וַיַּרְא י"י כִּי סָר לִרְאוֹת וַיִּקְרָא אֵלָיו אֱלֹהִים מִתּוֹךְ הַסְּנֶה וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה מֹשֶׁה וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי.

Shemot 14:19-20שמות י״ד:י״ט-כ׳

(19) The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them. (20) It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one didn’t come near the other all the night.

(יט) וַיִּסַּע מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים הַהֹלֵךְ לִפְנֵי מַחֲנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֵּלֶךְ מֵאַחֲרֵיהֶם וַיִּסַּע עַמּוּד הֶעָנָן מִפְּנֵיהֶם וַיַּעֲמֹד מֵאַחֲרֵיהֶם. (כ) וַיָּבֹא בֵּין מַחֲנֵה מִצְרַיִם וּבֵין מַחֲנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיְהִי הֶעָנָן וְהַחֹשֶׁךְ וַיָּאֶר אֶת הַלָּיְלָה וְלֹא קָרַב זֶה אֶל זֶה כׇּל הַלָּיְלָה.

Shemot 23:20-33שמות כ״ג:כ׳-ל״ג

(20) “Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. (21) Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don’t provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him. (22) But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. (23) For my angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off. (24) You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you shall utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars. (25) You shall serve Hashem your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from your midst. (26) No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. (27) I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. (28) I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. (29) I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you. (30) Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land. (31) I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. (32) You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. (33) They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

(כ) הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי שֹׁלֵחַ מַלְאָךְ לְפָנֶיךָ לִשְׁמָרְךָ בַּדָּרֶךְ וְלַהֲבִיאֲךָ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר הֲכִנֹתִי. (כא) הִשָּׁמֶר מִפָּנָיו וּשְׁמַע בְּקֹלוֹ אַל תַּמֵּר בּוֹ כִּי לֹא יִשָּׂא לְפִשְׁעֲכֶם כִּי שְׁמִי בְּקִרְבּוֹ. (כב) כִּי אִם שָׁמוֹעַ תִּשְׁמַע בְּקֹלוֹ וְעָשִׂיתָ כֹּל אֲשֶׁר אֲדַבֵּר וְאָיַבְתִּי אֶת אֹיְבֶיךָ וְצַרְתִּי אֶת צֹרְרֶיךָ. (כג) כִּי יֵלֵךְ מַלְאָכִי לְפָנֶיךָ וֶהֱבִיאֲךָ אֶל הָאֱמֹרִי וְהַחִתִּי וְהַפְּרִזִּי וְהַכְּנַעֲנִי הַחִוִּי וְהַיְבוּסִי וְהִכְחַדְתִּיו. (כד) לֹא תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לֵאלֹהֵיהֶם וְלֹא תָעׇבְדֵם וְלֹא תַעֲשֶׂה כְּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כִּי הָרֵס תְּהָרְסֵם וְשַׁבֵּר תְּשַׁבֵּר מַצֵּבֹתֵיהֶם. (כה) וַעֲבַדְתֶּם אֵת י"י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם וּבֵרַךְ אֶת לַחְמְךָ וְאֶת מֵימֶיךָ וַהֲסִרֹתִי מַחֲלָה מִקִּרְבֶּךָ. (כו) לֹא תִהְיֶה מְשַׁכֵּלָה וַעֲקָרָה בְּאַרְצֶךָ אֶת מִסְפַּר יָמֶיךָ אֲמַלֵּא. (כז) אֶת אֵימָתִי אֲשַׁלַּח לְפָנֶיךָ וְהַמֹּתִי אֶת כׇּל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹא בָּהֶם וְנָתַתִּי אֶת כׇּל אֹיְבֶיךָ אֵלֶיךָ עֹרֶף. (כח) וְשָׁלַחְתִּי אֶת הַצִּרְעָה לְפָנֶיךָ וְגֵרְשָׁה אֶת הַחִוִּי אֶת הַכְּנַעֲנִי וְאֶת הַחִתִּי מִלְּפָנֶיךָ. (כט) לֹא אֲגָרְשֶׁנּוּ מִפָּנֶיךָ בְּשָׁנָה אֶחָת פֶּן תִּהְיֶה הָאָרֶץ שְׁמָמָה וְרַבָּה עָלֶיךָ חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה. (ל) מְעַט מְעַט אֲגָרְשֶׁנּוּ מִפָּנֶיךָ עַד אֲשֶׁר תִּפְרֶה וְנָחַלְתָּ אֶת הָאָרֶץ. (לא) וְשַׁתִּי אֶת גְּבֻלְךָ מִיַּם סוּף וְעַד יָם פְּלִשְׁתִּים וּמִמִּדְבָּר עַד הַנָּהָר כִּי אֶתֵּן בְּיֶדְכֶם אֵת יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ וְגֵרַשְׁתָּמוֹ מִפָּנֶיךָ. (לב) לֹא תִכְרֹת לָהֶם וְלֵאלֹהֵיהֶם בְּרִית. (לג) לֹא יֵשְׁבוּ בְּאַרְצְךָ פֶּן יַחֲטִיאוּ אֹתְךָ לִי כִּי תַעֲבֹד אֶת אֱלֹהֵיהֶם כִּי יִהְיֶה לְךָ לְמוֹקֵשׁ.

Shemot 32:34שמות ל״ב:ל״ד

Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”

וְעַתָּה לֵךְ נְחֵה אֶת הָעָם אֶל אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתִּי לָךְ הִנֵּה מַלְאָכִי יֵלֵךְ לְפָנֶיךָ וּבְיוֹם פׇּקְדִי וּפָקַדְתִּי עֲלֵהֶם חַטָּאתָם.

Shemot 33:1-3שמות ל״ג:א׳-ג׳

(1) Hashem spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your seed.’ (2) I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: (3) to a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you in the way.”

(א) וַיְדַבֵּר י״י אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵךְ עֲלֵה מִזֶּה אַתָּה וְהָעָם אֲשֶׁר הֶעֱלִיתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב לֵאמֹר לְזַרְעֲךָ אֶתְּנֶנָּה. (ב) וְשָׁלַחְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ מַלְאָךְ וְגֵרַשְׁתִּי אֶת הַכְּנַעֲנִי הָאֱמֹרִי וְהַחִתִּי וְהַפְּרִזִּי הַחִוִּי וְהַיְבוּסִי. (ג) אֶל אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ כִּי לֹא אֶעֱלֶה בְּקִרְבְּךָ כִּי עַם קְשֵׁה עֹרֶף אַתָּה פֶּן אֲכֶלְךָ בַּדָּרֶךְ.

Bemidbar 20:16במדבר כ׳:ט״ז

and when we cried to Hashem, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border.

וַנִּצְעַק אֶל י"י וַיִּשְׁמַע קֹלֵנוּ וַיִּשְׁלַח מַלְאָךְ וַיֹּצִאֵנוּ מִמִּצְרָיִם וְהִנֵּה אֲנַחְנוּ בְקָדֵשׁ עִיר קְצֵה גְבוּלֶךָ.

Bemidbar 22:22-35במדבר כ״ב:כ״ב-ל״ה

(22) God’s anger was kindled because he went; and the angel of Hashem placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. (23) The donkey saw the angel of Hashem standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the donkey turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the way. (24) Then the angel of Hashem stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. (25) The donkey saw the angel of Hashem, and she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he struck her again. (26) The angel of Hashem went further, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. (27) The donkey saw the angel of Hashem, and she lay down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he struck the donkey with his staff. (28) Hashem opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?” (29) Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you.” (30) The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long to this day? Was I ever in the habit of doing so to you?” He said, “No.” (31) Then Hashem opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Hashem standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face. (32) The angel of Hashem said to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come forth as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me: (33) and the donkey saw me, and turned aside before me these three times. Unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I would have killed you, and saved her alive.” (34) Balaam said to the angel of Hashem, “I have sinned; for I didn’t know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back again.” (35) The angel of Hashem said to Balaam, “Go with the men; but only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

(כב) וַיִּחַר אַף אֱלֹהִים כִּי הוֹלֵךְ הוּא וַיִּתְיַצֵּב מַלְאַךְ י״י בַּדֶּרֶךְ לְשָׂטָן לוֹ וְהוּא רֹכֵב עַל אֲתֹנוֹ וּשְׁנֵי נְעָרָיו עִמּוֹ. (כג) וַתֵּרֶא הָאָתוֹן אֶת מַלְאַךְ י״י נִצָּב בַּדֶּרֶךְ וְחַרְבּוֹ שְׁלוּפָה בְּיָדוֹ וַתֵּט הָאָתוֹן מִן הַדֶּרֶךְ וַתֵּלֶךְ בַּשָּׂדֶה וַיַּךְ בִּלְעָם אֶת הָאָתוֹן לְהַטֹּתָהּ הַדָּרֶךְ. (כד) וַיַּעֲמֹד מַלְאַךְ י״י בְּמִשְׁעוֹל הַכְּרָמִים גָּדֵר מִזֶּה וְגָדֵר מִזֶּה. (כה) וַתֵּרֶא הָאָתוֹן אֶת מַלְאַךְ י״י וַתִּלָּחֵץ אֶל הַקִּיר וַתִּלְחַץ אֶת רֶגֶל בִּלְעָם אֶל הַקִּיר וַיֹּסֶף לְהַכֹּתָהּ. (כו) וַיּוֹסֶף מַלְאַךְ י״י עֲבוֹר וַיַּעֲמֹד בְּמָקוֹם צָר אֲשֶׁר אֵין דֶּרֶךְ לִנְטוֹת יָמִין וּשְׂמֹאול. (כז) וַתֵּרֶא הָאָתוֹן אֶת מַלְאַךְ י״י וַתִּרְבַּץ תַּחַת בִּלְעָם וַיִּחַר אַף בִּלְעָם וַיַּךְ אֶת הָאָתוֹן בַּמַּקֵּל. (כח) וַיִּפְתַּח י״י אֶת פִּי הָאָתוֹן וַתֹּאמֶר לְבִלְעָם מֶה עָשִׂיתִי לְךָ כִּי הִכִּיתַנִי זֶה שָׁלֹשׁ רְגָלִים. (כט) וַיֹּאמֶר בִּלְעָם לָאָתוֹן כִּי הִתְעַלַּלְתְּ בִּי לוּ יֶשׁ חֶרֶב בְּיָדִי כִּי עַתָּה הֲרַגְתִּיךְ. (ל) וַתֹּאמֶר הָאָתוֹן אֶל בִּלְעָם הֲלוֹא אָנֹכִי אֲתֹנְךָ אֲשֶׁר רָכַבְתָּ עָלַי מֵעוֹדְךָ עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה הַהַסְכֵּן הִסְכַּנְתִּי לַעֲשׂוֹת לְךָ כֹּה וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא. (לא) וַיְגַל י״י אֶת עֵינֵי בִלְעָם וַיַּרְא אֶת מַלְאַךְ י״י נִצָּב בַּדֶּרֶךְ וְחַרְבּוֹ שְׁלֻפָה בְּיָדוֹ וַיִּקֹּד וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ לְאַפָּיו. (לב) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו מַלְאַךְ י״י עַל מָה הִכִּיתָ אֶת אֲתֹנְךָ זֶה שָׁלוֹשׁ רְגָלִים הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי יָצָאתִי לְשָׂטָן כִּי יָרַט הַדֶּרֶךְ לְנֶגְדִּי. (לג) וַתִּרְאַנִי הָאָתוֹן וַתֵּט לְפָנַי זֶה שָׁלֹשׁ רְגָלִים אוּלַי נָטְתָה מִפָּנַי כִּי עַתָּה גַּם אֹתְכָה הָרַגְתִּי וְאוֹתָהּ הֶחֱיֵיתִי. (לד) וַיֹּאמֶר בִּלְעָם אֶל מַלְאַךְ י״י חָטָאתִי כִּי לֹא יָדַעְתִּי כִּי אַתָּה נִצָּב לִקְרָאתִי בַּדָּרֶךְ וְעַתָּה אִם רַע בְּעֵינֶיךָ אָשׁוּבָה לִּי. (לה) וַיֹּאמֶר מַלְאַךְ י״י אֶל בִּלְעָם לֵךְ עִם הָאֲנָשִׁים וְאֶפֶס אֶת הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר אֲדַבֵּר אֵלֶיךָ אֹתוֹ תְדַבֵּר וַיֵּלֶךְ בִּלְעָם עִם שָׂרֵי בָלָק.

Shofetim 2:1-5שופטים ב׳:א׳-ה׳

(1) And the angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said: '...I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I swore unto your fathers; and I said: I will never break My covenant with you; (2) and ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall break down their altars; but ye have not hearkened unto My voice; what is this ye have done? (3) Wherefore I also said: I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be unto you as snares, and their gods shall be a trap unto you.' (4) And it came to pass, when the angel of the Lord spoke these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. (5) And they called the name of that place Bochim; and they sacrificed there unto the Lord.

(א) וַיַּעַל מַלְאַךְ י"י מִן הַגִּלְגָּל אֶל הַבֹּכִים וַיֹּאמֶר אַעֲלֶה אֶתְכֶם מִמִּצְרַיִם וָאָבִיא אֶתְכֶם אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶם וָאֹמַר לֹא אָפֵר בְּרִיתִי אִתְּכֶם לְעוֹלָם. (ב) וְאַתֶּם לֹא תִכְרְתוּ בְרִית לְיוֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת מִזְבְּחוֹתֵיהֶם תִּתֹּצוּן וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם בְּקוֹלִי מַה זֹּאת עֲשִׂיתֶם. (ג) וְגַם אָמַרְתִּי לֹא אֲגָרֵשׁ אוֹתָם מִפְּנֵיכֶם וְהָיוּ לָכֶם לְצִדִּים וֵאלֹהֵיהֶם יִהְיוּ לָכֶם לְמוֹקֵשׁ. (ד) וַיְהִי כְּדַבֵּר מַלְאַךְ י"י אֶת הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אֶל כׇּל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּשְׂאוּ הָעָם אֶת קוֹלָם וַיִּבְכּוּ. (ה) וַיִּקְרְאוּ שֵׁם הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא בֹּכִים וַיִּזְבְּחוּ שָׁם לַי"י.

Shofetim 5:23שופטים ה׳:כ״ג

'Curse ye Meroz', said the angel of the Lord, 'Curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof, Because they came not to the help of the Lord, To the help of the Lord against the mighty.'

אוֹרוּ מֵרוֹז אָמַר מַלְאַךְ י"י אֹרוּ אָרוֹר יֹשְׁבֶיהָ כִּי לֹא בָאוּ לְעֶזְרַת י"י לְעֶזְרַת י"י בַּגִּבּוֹרִים.

Shofetim 6:8-24שופטים ו׳:ח׳-כ״ד

(8) that the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel; and he said unto them: 'Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel: I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; (9) and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land. (10) And I said unto you: I am the Lord your God; ye shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but ye have not hearkened unto My voice.' (11) And the angel of the Lord came, and sat under the terebinth which was in Ophrah, that belonged unto Joash the Abiezrite; and his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. (12) And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him: 'The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.' (13) And Gideon said unto him: 'Oh, my lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where are all His wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying: Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.' (14) And the Lord turned towards him, and said: 'Go in this thy might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian; have not I sent thee?' (15) And he said unto him: 'Oh, my lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.' (16) And the Lord said unto him: 'Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.' (17) And he said unto him: 'If now I have found favour in thy sight, then show me a sign that it is thou that talkest with me. (18) Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and lay it before thee.' And he said: 'I will tarry until thou come back.' (19) And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal; the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the terebinth, and presented it. (20) And the angel of God said unto him: 'Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth.' And he did so. (21) Then the angel of the Lord put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there went up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and the angel of the Lord departed out of his sight. (22) And Gideon saw that he was the angel of the Lord; and Gideon said: 'Alas, O Lord God! forasmuch as I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.' (23) And the Lord said unto him: 'Peace be unto thee; fear not; thou shalt not die.' (24) Then Gideon built an altar there unto the Lord, and called it 'Adonai-shalom'; unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

(ח) וַיִּשְׁלַח י"י אִישׁ נָבִיא אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם כֹּה אָמַר י"י אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָנֹכִי הֶעֱלֵיתִי אֶתְכֶם מִמִּצְרַיִם וָאֹצִיא אֶתְכֶם מִבֵּית עֲבָדִים. (ט) וָאַצִּל אֶתְכֶם מִיַּד מִצְרַיִם וּמִיַּד כׇּל לֹחֲצֵיכֶם וָאֲגָרֵשׁ אוֹתָם מִפְּנֵיכֶם וָאֶתְּנָה לָכֶם אֶת אַרְצָם. (י) וָאֹמְרָה לָכֶם אֲנִי י"י אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לֹא תִירְאוּ אֶת אֱלֹהֵי הָאֱמֹרִי אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יוֹשְׁבִים בְּאַרְצָם וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם בְּקוֹלִי. (יא) וַיָּבֹא מַלְאַךְ י"י וַיֵּשֶׁב תַּחַת הָאֵלָה אֲשֶׁר בְּעׇפְרָה אֲשֶׁר לְיוֹאָשׁ אֲבִי הָעֶזְרִי וְגִדְעוֹן בְּנוֹ חֹבֵט חִטִּים בַּגַּת לְהָנִיס מִפְּנֵי מִדְיָן. (יב) וַיֵּרָא אֵלָיו מַלְאַךְ י"י וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו י"י עִמְּךָ גִּבּוֹר הֶחָיִל. (יג) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו גִּדְעוֹן בִּי אֲדֹנִי וְיֵשׁ י"י עִמָּנוּ וְלָמָּה מְצָאַתְנוּ כׇּל זֹאת וְאַיֵּה כׇל נִפְלְאֹתָיו אֲשֶׁר סִפְּרוּ לָנוּ אֲבוֹתֵינוּ לֵאמֹר הֲלֹא מִמִּצְרַיִם הֶעֱלָנוּ י"י וְעַתָּה נְטָשָׁנוּ י"י וַיִּתְּנֵנוּ בְּכַף מִדְיָן. (יד) וַיִּפֶן אֵלָיו י"י וַיֹּאמֶר לֵךְ בְּכֹחֲךָ זֶה וְהוֹשַׁעְתָּ אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל מִכַּף מִדְיָן הֲלֹא שְׁלַחְתִּיךָ. (טו) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו בִּי אֲדֹנָי בַּמָּה אוֹשִׁיעַ אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל הִנֵּה אַלְפִּי הַדַּל בִּמְנַשֶּׁה וְאָנֹכִי הַצָּעִיר בְּבֵית אָבִי. (טז) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו י"י כִּי אֶהְיֶה עִמָּךְ וְהִכִּיתָ אֶת מִדְיָן כְּאִישׁ אֶחָד. (יז) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אִם נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ וְעָשִׂיתָ לִּי אוֹת שָׁאַתָּה מְדַבֵּר עִמִּי. (יח) אַל נָא תָמֻשׁ מִזֶּה עַד בֹּאִי אֵלֶיךָ וְהֹצֵאתִי אֶת מִנְחָתִי וְהִנַּחְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ וַיֹּאמַר אָנֹכִי אֵשֵׁב עַד שׁוּבֶךָ. (יט) וְגִדְעוֹן בָּא וַיַּעַשׂ גְּדִי עִזִּים וְאֵיפַת קֶמַח מַצּוֹת הַבָּשָׂר שָׂם בַּסַּל וְהַמָּרַק שָׂם בַּפָּרוּר וַיּוֹצֵא אֵלָיו אֶל תַּחַת הָאֵלָה וַיַּגַּשׁ. (כ) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים קַח אֶת הַבָּשָׂר וְאֶת הַמַּצּוֹת וְהַנַּח אֶל הַסֶּלַע הַלָּז וְאֶת הַמָּרַק שְׁפוֹךְ וַיַּעַשׂ כֵּן. (כא) וַיִּשְׁלַח מַלְאַךְ י"י אֶת קְצֵה הַמִּשְׁעֶנֶת אֲשֶׁר בְּיָדוֹ וַיִּגַּע בַּבָּשָׂר וּבַמַּצּוֹת וַתַּעַל הָאֵשׁ מִן הַצּוּר וַתֹּאכַל אֶת הַבָּשָׂר וְאֶת הַמַּצּוֹת וּמַלְאַךְ י"י הָלַךְ מֵעֵינָיו. (כב) וַיַּרְא גִּדְעוֹן כִּי מַלְאַךְ י"י הוּא וַיֹּאמֶר גִּדְעוֹן אֲהָהּ אֲדֹנָי יֱ־הֹוִה כִּי עַל כֵּן רָאִיתִי מַלְאַךְ י"י פָּנִים אֶל פָּנִים. (כג) וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ י"י שָׁלוֹם לְךָ אַל תִּירָא לֹא תָּמוּת. (כד) וַיִּבֶן שָׁם גִּדְעוֹן מִזְבֵּחַ לַי"י וַיִּקְרָא לוֹ י"י שָׁלוֹם עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה עוֹדֶנּוּ בְּעׇפְרָת אֲבִי הָעֶזְרִי.

Shofetim 13:2-24שופטים י״ג:ב׳-כ״ד

(2) And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bore not. (3) And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her: 'Behold now, thou art barren, and hast not borne; but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. (4) Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing. (5) For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come upon his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.' (6) Then the woman came and told her husband, saying: 'A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of the angel of God, very terrible; and I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name; (7) but he said unto me: Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb to the day of his death.' (8) Then Manoah entreated the Lord, and said: 'Oh, Lord, I pray Thee, let the man of God whom Thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.' (9) And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her. (10) And the woman made haste, and ran, and told her husband, and said unto him: 'Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me that day.' (11) And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him: 'Art thou the man that spokest unto the woman?' And he said: 'I am.' (12) And Manoah said: 'Now when thy word cometh to pass, what shall be the rule for the child, and what shall be done with him?' (13) And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah: 'Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. (14) She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the grapevine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe.' (15) And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord: 'I pray thee, let us detain thee, that we may make ready a kid for thee.' (16) And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah: 'Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt make ready a burnt-offering, thou must offer it unto the Lord.' For Manoah knew not that he was the angel of the Lord. (17) And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord: 'What is thy name, that when thy words come to pass we may do thee honour?' (18) And the angel of the Lord said unto him: 'Wherefore askest thou after my name, seeing it is hidden?' (19) So Manoah took the kid with the meal-offering, and offered it upon the rock unto the Lord; and [the angel] did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on. (20) For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar; and Manoah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground. (21) But the angel of the Lord did no more appear to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. (22) And Manoah said unto his wife: 'We shall surely die, because we have seen God.' (23) But his wife said unto him: 'If the Lord were pleased to kill us, He would not have received a burnt-offering and a meal-offering at our hand, neither would He have shown us all these things, nor would at this time have told such things as these.' (24) And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him.

(ב) וַיְהִי אִישׁ אֶחָד מִצׇּרְעָה מִמִּשְׁפַּחַת הַדָּנִי וּשְׁמוֹ מָנוֹחַ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ עֲקָרָה וְלֹא יָלָדָה. (ג) וַיֵּרָא מַלְאַךְ י"י אֶל הָאִשָּׁה וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶיהָ הִנֵּה נָא אַתְּ עֲקָרָה וְלֹא יָלַדְתְּ וְהָרִית וְיָלַדְתְּ בֵּן. (ד) וְעַתָּה הִשָּׁמְרִי נָא וְאַל תִּשְׁתִּי יַיִן וְשֵׁכָר וְאַל תֹּאכְלִי כׇּל טָמֵא. (ה) כִּי הִנָּךְ הָרָה וְיֹלַדְתְּ בֵּן וּמוֹרָה לֹא יַעֲלֶה עַל רֹאשׁוֹ כִּי נְזִיר אֱלֹהִים יִהְיֶה הַנַּעַר מִן הַבָּטֶן וְהוּא יָחֵל לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל מִיַּד פְּלִשְׁתִּים. (ו) וַתָּבֹא הָאִשָּׁה וַתֹּאמֶר לְאִישָׁהּ לֵאמֹר אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים בָּא אֵלַי וּמַרְאֵהוּ כְּמַרְאֵה מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים נוֹרָא מְאֹד וְלֹא שְׁאִלְתִּיהוּ אֵי מִזֶּה הוּא וְאֶת שְׁמוֹ לֹא הִגִּיד לִי. (ז) וַיֹּאמֶר לִי הִנָּךְ הָרָה וְיֹלַדְתְּ בֵּן וְעַתָּה אַל תִּשְׁתִּי יַיִן וְשֵׁכָר וְאַל תֹּאכְלִי כׇּל טֻמְאָה כִּי נְזִיר אֱלֹהִים יִהְיֶה הַנַּעַר מִן הַבֶּטֶן עַד יוֹם מוֹתוֹ. (ח) וַיֶּעְתַּר מָנוֹחַ אֶל י"י וַיֹּאמַר בִּי אֲדוֹנָי אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַחְתָּ יָבוֹא נָא עוֹד אֵלֵינוּ וְיוֹרֵנוּ מַה נַּעֲשֶׂה לַנַּעַר הַיּוּלָּד. (ט) וַיִּשְׁמַע הָאֱלֹהִים בְּקוֹל מָנוֹחַ וַיָּבֹא מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים עוֹד אֶל הָאִשָּׁה וְהִיא יוֹשֶׁבֶת בַּשָּׂדֶה וּמָנוֹחַ אִישָׁהּ אֵין עִמָּהּ. (י) וַתְּמַהֵר הָאִשָּׁה וַתָּרׇץ וַתַּגֵּד לְאִישָׁהּ וַתֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הִנֵּה נִרְאָה אֵלַי הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר בָּא בַיּוֹם אֵלָי. (יא) וַיָּקׇם וַיֵּלֶךְ מָנוֹחַ אַחֲרֵי אִשְׁתּוֹ וַיָּבֹא אֶל הָאִישׁ וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ הַאַתָּה הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ אֶל הָאִשָּׁה וַיֹּאמֶר אָנִי. (יב) וַיֹּאמֶר מָנוֹחַ עַתָּה יָבֹא דְבָרֶיךָ מַה יִּהְיֶה מִשְׁפַּט הַנַּעַר וּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ. (יג) וַיֹּאמֶר מַלְאַךְ י"י אֶל מָנוֹחַ מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר אָמַרְתִּי אֶל הָאִשָּׁה תִּשָּׁמֵר. (יד) מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר יֵצֵא מִגֶּפֶן הַיַּיִן לֹא תֹאכַל וְיַיִן וְשֵׁכָר אַל תֵּשְׁתְּ וְכׇל טֻמְאָה אַל תֹּאכַל כֹּל אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִיהָ תִּשְׁמֹר. (טו) וַיֹּאמֶר מָנוֹחַ אֶל מַלְאַךְ י"י נַעְצְרָה נָּא אוֹתָךְ וְנַעֲשֶׂה לְפָנֶיךָ גְּדִי עִזִּים. (טז) וַיֹּאמֶר מַלְאַךְ י"י אֶל מָנוֹחַ אִם תַּעְצְרֵנִי לֹא אֹכַל בְּלַחְמֶךָ וְאִם תַּעֲשֶׂה עֹלָה לַי"י תַּעֲלֶנָּה כִּי לֹא יָדַע מָנוֹחַ כִּי מַלְאַךְ י"י הוּא. (יז) וַיֹּאמֶר מָנוֹחַ אֶל מַלְאַךְ י"י מִי שְׁמֶךָ כִּי יָבֹא [דְבָרְךָ] (דבריך) וְכִבַּדְנוּךָ. (יח) וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ מַלְאַךְ י"י לָמָּה זֶּה תִּשְׁאַל לִשְׁמִי וְהוּא פֶלִאי. (יט) וַיִּקַּח מָנוֹחַ אֶת גְּדִי הָעִזִּים וְאֶת הַמִּנְחָה וַיַּעַל עַל הַצּוּר לַי"י וּמַפְלִא לַעֲשׂוֹת וּמָנוֹחַ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ רֹאִים. (כ) וַיְהִי בַעֲלוֹת הַלַּהַב מֵעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ הַשָּׁמַיְמָה וַיַּעַל מַלְאַךְ י"י בְּלַהַב הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וּמָנוֹחַ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ רֹאִים וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל פְּנֵיהֶם אָרְצָה. (כא) וְלֹא יָסַף עוֹד מַלְאַךְ י"י לְהֵרָאֹה אֶל מָנוֹחַ וְאֶל אִשְׁתּוֹ אָז יָדַע מָנוֹחַ כִּי מַלְאַךְ י"י הוּא. (כב) וַיֹּאמֶר מָנוֹחַ אֶל אִשְׁתּוֹ מוֹת נָמוּת כִּי אֱלֹהִים רָאִינוּ. (כג) וַתֹּאמֶר לוֹ אִשְׁתּוֹ לוּ חָפֵץ י"י לַהֲמִיתֵנוּ לֹא לָקַח מִיָּדֵנוּ עֹלָה וּמִנְחָה וְלֹא הֶרְאָנוּ אֶת כׇּל אֵלֶּה וְכָעֵת לֹא הִשְׁמִיעָנוּ כָּזֹאת. (כד) וַתֵּלֶד הָאִשָּׁה בֵּן וַתִּקְרָא אֶת שְׁמוֹ שִׁמְשׁוֹן וַיִּגְדַּל הַנַּעַר וַיְבָרְכֵהוּ י"י.

Shemuel I 29:9שמואל א׳ כ״ט:ט׳

And Achish answered and said to David: 'I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God; notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said: He shall not go up with us to the battle.

וַיַּעַן אָכִישׁ וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל דָּוִד יָדַעְתִּי כִּי טוֹב אַתָּה בְּעֵינַי כְּמַלְאַךְ אֱלֹהִים אַךְ שָׂרֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים אָמְרוּ לֹא יַעֲלֶה עִמָּנוּ בַּמִּלְחָמָה.

Shemuel II 14:17-20שמואל ב׳ י״ד:י״ז-כ׳

(17) Then thy handmaid said: Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be for my comfort; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad; and the Lord thy God be with thee.' (18) Then the king answered and said unto the woman: 'Hide not from me, I pray thee, aught that I shall ask thee.' And the woman said: 'Let my lord the king now speak.' (19) And the king said: 'Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this?' And the woman answered and said: 'As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from aught that my lord the king hath spoken; for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thy handmaid; (20) to change the face of the matter hath thy servant Joab done this thing; and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.'

(יז) וַתֹּאמֶר שִׁפְחָתְךָ יִהְיֶה נָּא דְּבַר אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ לִמְנֻחָה כִּי כְּמַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים כֵּן אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ לִשְׁמֹעַ הַטּוֹב וְהָרָע וַי"י אֱלֹהֶיךָ יְהִי עִמָּךְ. (יח) וַיַּעַן הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל הָאִשָּׁה אַל נָא תְכַחֲדִי מִמֶּנִּי דָּבָר אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי שֹׁאֵל אֹתָךְ וַתֹּאמֶר הָאִשָּׁה יְדַבֶּר נָא אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ. (יט) וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ הֲיַד יוֹאָב אִתָּךְ בְּכׇל זֹאת וַתַּעַן הָאִשָּׁה וַתֹּאמֶר חֵי נַפְשְׁךָ אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ אִם אִשׁ לְהֵמִין וּלְהַשְׂמִיל מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ כִּי עַבְדְּךָ יוֹאָב הוּא צִוָּנִי וְהוּא שָׂם בְּפִי שִׁפְחָתְךָ אֵת כׇּל הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה. (כ) לְבַעֲבוּר סַבֵּב אֶת פְּנֵי הַדָּבָר עָשָׂה עַבְדְּךָ יוֹאָב אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה וַאדֹנִי חָכָם כְּחׇכְמַת מַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים לָדַעַת אֶת כׇּל אֲשֶׁר בָּאָרֶץ.

Shemuel II 19:28שמואל ב׳ י״ט:כ״ח

And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God; do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

וַיְרַגֵּל בְּעַבְדְּךָ אֶל אֲדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַאדֹנִי הַמֶּלֶךְ כְּמַלְאַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים וַעֲשֵׂה הַטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ.

(15) So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men. (16) And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord repented Him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people: 'It is enough; now stay thy hand.' And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. (17) And David spoke unto the Lord when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said: 'Lo, I have sinned, and I have done iniquitously; but these sheep, whathave they done? let Thy hand, I pray Thee, be against me, and against my father's house.'

(טו) וַיִּתֵּן י"י דֶּבֶר בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל מֵהַבֹּקֶר וְעַד עֵת מוֹעֵד וַיָּמׇת מִן הָעָם מִדָּן וְעַד בְּאֵר שֶׁבַע שִׁבְעִים אֶלֶף אִישׁ. (טז) וַיִּשְׁלַח יָדוֹ הַמַּלְאָךְ יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם לְשַׁחֲתָהּ וַיִּנָּחֶם י"י אֶל הָרָעָה וַיֹּאמֶר לַמַּלְאָךְ הַמַּשְׁחִית בָּעָם רַב עַתָּה הֶרֶף יָדֶךָ וּמַלְאַךְ י"י הָיָה עִם גֹּרֶן [הָאֲרַוְנָה] (האורנה) הַיְבֻסִי. (יז) וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִד אֶל י"י בִּרְאֹתוֹ אֶת הַמַּלְאָךְ הַמַּכֶּה בָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי חָטָאתִי וְאָנֹכִי הֶעֱוֵיתִי וְאֵלֶּה הַצֹּאן מֶה עָשׂוּ תְּהִי נָא יָדְךָ בִּי וּבְבֵית אָבִי.

And he said unto him: 'I also am a prophet as thou art; and an angel spoke unto me by the word of the Lord, saying: Bring him back with thee into thy house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'—He lied unto him.—

(4) But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom-tree; and he requested for himself that he might die; and said: 'It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.' (5) And he lay down and slept under a broom-tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him: 'Arise and eat.' (6) And he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the hot stones, and a cruse of water. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. (7) And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said: 'Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.' (8) And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meal forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

(ד) וְהוּא הָלַךְ בַּמִּדְבָּר דֶּרֶךְ יוֹם וַיָּבֹא וַיֵּשֶׁב תַּחַת רֹתֶם [אֶחָד] (אחת) וַיִּשְׁאַל אֶת נַפְשׁוֹ לָמוּת וַיֹּאמֶר רַב עַתָּה י"י קַח נַפְשִׁי כִּי לֹא טוֹב אָנֹכִי מֵאֲבֹתָי. (ה) וַיִּשְׁכַּב וַיִּישַׁן תַּחַת רֹתֶם אֶחָד וְהִנֵּה זֶה מַלְאָךְ נֹגֵעַ בּוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ קוּם אֱכוֹל. (ו) וַיַּבֵּט וְהִנֵּה מְרַאֲשֹׁתָיו עֻגַת רְצָפִים וְצַפַּחַת מָיִם וַיֹּאכַל וַיֵּשְׁתְּ וַיָּשׇׁב וַיִּשְׁכָּב. (ז) וַיָּשׇׁב מַלְאַךְ י"י שֵׁנִית וַיִּגַּע בּוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר קוּם אֱכֹל כִּי רַב מִמְּךָ הַדָּרֶךְ. (ח) וַיָּקׇם וַיֹּאכַל וַיִּשְׁתֶּה וַיֵּלֶךְ בְּכֹחַ הָאֲכִילָה הַהִיא אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לַיְלָה עַד הַר הָאֱלֹהִים חֹרֵב.

Melakhim II 1:3-4מלכים ב׳ א׳:ג׳-ד׳

(3) But an angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite: 'Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them: Is it because there is no God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? (4) Now therefore thus saith the Lord: Thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.' And Elijah departed.

(ג) וּמַלְאַךְ י"י דִּבֶּר אֶל אֵלִיָּה הַתִּשְׁבִּי קוּם עֲלֵה לִקְרַאת מַלְאֲכֵי מֶלֶךְ שֹׁמְרוֹן וְדַבֵּר אֲלֵהֶם הֲמִבְּלִי אֵין אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל אַתֶּם הֹלְכִים לִדְרֹשׁ בְּבַעַל זְבוּב אֱלֹהֵי עֶקְרוֹן. (ד) וְלָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר י"י הַמִּטָּה אֲשֶׁר עָלִיתָ שָּׁם לֹא תֵרֵד מִמֶּנָּה כִּי מוֹת תָּמוּת וַיֵּלֶךְ אֵלִיָּה.

And the angel of the Lord said unto Elijah: 'Go down with him; be not afraid of him.' And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.

And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred fourscore and five thousand; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

Yeshayahu 6:1-7ישעיהו ו׳:א׳-ז׳

(1) In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. (2) Above Him stood the seraphim; each one had six wings: with twain he covered his face and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. (3) And one called unto another, and said: Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory. (4) And the posts of the door were moved at the voice of them that called, and the house was filled with smoke. (5) Then said I: Woe is me! for I am undone; Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For mine eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts. (6) Then flew unto me one of the seraphim, with a glowing stone in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar; (7) and he touched my mouth with it, and said: Lo, this hath touched thy lips; And thine iniquity is taken away, And thy sin expiated.

(א) בִּשְׁנַת מוֹת הַמֶּלֶךְ עֻזִּיָּהוּ וָאֶרְאֶה אֶת אֲדֹנָי יֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא רָם וְנִשָּׂא וְשׁוּלָיו מְלֵאִים אֶת הַהֵיכָל. (ב) שְׂרָפִים עֹמְדִים מִמַּעַל לוֹ שֵׁשׁ כְּנָפַיִם שֵׁשׁ כְּנָפַיִם לְאֶחָד בִּשְׁתַּיִם יְכַסֶּה פָנָיו וּבִשְׁתַּיִם יְכַסֶּה רַגְלָיו וּבִשְׁתַּיִם יְעוֹפֵף. (ג) וְקָרָא זֶה אֶל זֶה וְאָמַר קָדוֹשׁ קָדוֹשׁ קָדוֹשׁ י"י צְבָאוֹת מְלֹא כׇל הָאָרֶץ כְּבוֹדוֹ. (ד) וַיָּנֻעוּ אַמּוֹת הַסִּפִּים מִקּוֹל הַקּוֹרֵא וְהַבַּיִת יִמָּלֵא עָשָׁן. (ה) וָאֹמַר אוֹי לִי כִי נִדְמֵיתִי כִּי אִישׁ טְמֵא שְׂפָתַיִם אָנֹכִי וּבְתוֹךְ עַם טְמֵא שְׂפָתַיִם אָנֹכִי יוֹשֵׁב כִּי אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ י"י צְבָאוֹת רָאוּ עֵינָי. (ו) וַיָּעׇף אֵלַי אֶחָד מִן הַשְּׂרָפִים וּבְיָדוֹ רִצְפָּה בְּמֶלְקַחַיִם לָקַח מֵעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ. (ז) וַיַּגַּע עַל פִּי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה נָגַע זֶה עַל שְׂפָתֶיךָ וְסָר עֲוֺנֶךָ וְחַטָּאתְךָ תְּכֻפָּר.

Yeshayahu 33:7ישעיהו ל״ג:ז׳

Behold, their valiant ones cry without; The ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.

הֵן אֶרְאֶלָּם צָעֲקוּ חֻצָה מַלְאֲכֵי שָׁלוֹם מַר יִבְכָּיוּן.

Who is blind, but My servant? Or deaf, as My messenger that I send? Who is blind as he that is wholehearted, And blind as the Lord's servant?

מִי עִוֵּר כִּי אִם עַבְדִּי וְחֵרֵשׁ כְּמַלְאָכִי אֶשְׁלָח מִי עִוֵּר כִּמְשֻׁלָּם וְעִוֵּר כְּעֶבֶד י"י.

Yeshayahu 44:25-26ישעיהו מ״ד:כ״ה-כ״ו

(25) That frustrateth the tokens of the imposters, And maketh diviners mad; That turneth wise men backward, And maketh their knowledge foolish; (26) That confirmeth the word of His servant, And performeth the counsel of His messengers; That saith of Jerusalem: 'She shall be inhabited'; And of the cities of Judah: 'They shall be built, And I will raise up the waste places thereof';

(כה) מֵפֵר אֹתוֹת בַּדִּים וְקֹסְמִים יְהוֹלֵל מֵשִׁיב חֲכָמִים אָחוֹר וְדַעְתָּם יְסַכֵּל. (כו) מֵקִים דְּבַר עַבְדּוֹ וַעֲצַת מַלְאָכָיו יַשְׁלִים הָאֹמֵר לִירוּשָׁלַ‍ִם תּוּשָׁב וּלְעָרֵי יְהוּדָה תִּבָּנֶינָה וְחׇרְבוֹתֶיהָ אֲקוֹמֵם.

In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; And He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

בְּכׇל צָרָתָם [לוֹ] (לא) צָר וּמַלְאַךְ פָּנָיו הוֹשִׁיעָם בְּאַהֲבָתוֹ וּבְחֶמְלָתוֹ הוּא גְאָלָם וַיְנַטְּלֵם וַיְנַשְּׂאֵם כׇּל יְמֵי עוֹלָם.

Yechezkel 1יחזקאל א׳

(1) Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river Chebar that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. (2) In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity, (3) the word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was there upon him. (4) And I looked, and, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud, with a fire flashing up, so that a brightness was round about it; and out of the midst thereof as the colour of electrum, out of the midst of the fire. (5) And out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man. (6) And every one had four faces, and every one of them had four wings. (7) And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot; and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. (8) And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and as for the faces and wings of them four, (9) their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. (10) As for the likeness of their faces, they had the face of a man; and they four had the face of a lion on the right side; and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four had also the face of an eagle. (11) Thus were their faces; and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. (12) And they went every one straight forward; whither the spirit was to go, they went; they turned not when they went. (13) As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like coals of fire, burning like the appearance of torches; it flashed up and down among the living creatures; and there was brightness to the fire, and out of the fire went forth lightning. (14) And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. (15) Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel at the bottom hard by the living creatures, at the four faces thereof. (16) The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl; and they four had one likeness; and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel within a wheel. (17) When they went, they went toward their four sides; they turned not when they went. (18) As for their rings, they were high and they were dreadful; and they four had their rings full of eyes round about. (19) And when the living creatures went, the wheels went hard by them; and when the living creatures were lifted up from the bottom, the wheels were lifted up. (20) Whithersoever the spirit was to go, as the spirit was to go thither, so they went; andthe wheels were lifted up beside them; for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. (21) When those went, these went, and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up beside them; for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. (22) And over the heads of the living creatures there was the likeness of a firmament, like the colour of the terrible ice, stretched forth over their heads above. (23) And under the firmament were their wings conformable the one to the other; this one of them had two which covered, and that one of them had two which covered, their bodies. (24) And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings like the noise of great waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a noise of tumult like the noise of a host; when they stood, they let down their wings. (25) For, when there was a voice above the firmament that was over their heads, as they stood, they let down their wings. (26) And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone; and upon the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man upon it above. (27) And I saw as the colour of electrum, as the appearance of fire round about enclosing it, from the appearance of his loins and upward; and from the appearance of his loins and downward I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness round about him. (28) As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spoke.

(א) וַיְהִי בִּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה בָּרְבִיעִי בַּחֲמִשָּׁה לַחֹדֶשׁ וַאֲנִי בְתוֹךְ הַגּוֹלָה עַל נְהַר כְּבָר נִפְתְּחוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וָאֶרְאֶה מַרְאוֹת אֱלֹהִים. (ב) בַּחֲמִשָּׁה לַחֹדֶשׁ הִיא הַשָּׁנָה הַחֲמִישִׁית לְגָלוּת הַמֶּלֶךְ יוֹיָכִין. (ג) הָיֹה הָיָה דְבַר י"י אֶל יְחֶזְקֵאל בֶּן בּוּזִי הַכֹּהֵן בְּאֶרֶץ כַּשְׂדִּים עַל נְהַר כְּבָר וַתְּהִי עָלָיו שָׁם יַד י"י. (ד) וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה רוּחַ סְעָרָה בָּאָה מִן הַצָּפוֹן עָנָן גָּדוֹל וְאֵשׁ מִתְלַקַּחַת וְנֹגַהּ לוֹ סָבִיב וּמִתּוֹכָהּ כְּעֵין הַחַשְׁמַל מִתּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ. (ה) וּמִתּוֹכָהּ דְּמוּת אַרְבַּע חַיּוֹת וְזֶה מַרְאֵיהֶן דְּמוּת אָדָם לָהֵנָּה. (ו) וְאַרְבָּעָה פָנִים לְאֶחָת וְאַרְבַּע כְּנָפַיִם לְאַחַת לָהֶם. (ז) וְרַגְלֵיהֶם רֶגֶל יְשָׁרָה וְכַף רַגְלֵיהֶם כְּכַף רֶגֶל עֵגֶל וְנֹצְצִים כְּעֵין נְחֹשֶׁת קָלָל. (ח) [וִידֵי] (וידו) אָדָם מִתַּחַת כַּנְפֵיהֶם עַל אַרְבַּעַת רִבְעֵיהֶם וּפְנֵיהֶם וְכַנְפֵיהֶם לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם. (ט) חֹבְרֹת אִשָּׁה אֶל אֲחוֹתָהּ כַּנְפֵיהֶם לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְלֶכְתָּן אִישׁ אֶל עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ. (י) וּדְמוּת פְּנֵיהֶם פְּנֵי אָדָם וּפְנֵי אַרְיֵה אֶל הַיָּמִין לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם וּפְנֵי שׁוֹר מֵהַשְּׂמֹאול לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן וּפְנֵי נֶשֶׁר לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן. (יא) וּפְנֵיהֶם וְכַנְפֵיהֶם פְּרֻדוֹת מִלְמָעְלָה לְאִישׁ שְׁתַּיִם חֹבְרוֹת אִישׁ וּשְׁתַּיִם מְכַסּוֹת אֵת גְּוִיֹּתֵיהֶנָה. (יב) וְאִישׁ אֶל עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ אֶל אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה שָּׁמָּה הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת יֵלֵכוּ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְּלֶכְתָּן. (יג) וּדְמוּת הַחַיּוֹת מַרְאֵיהֶם כְּגַחֲלֵי אֵשׁ בֹּעֲרוֹת כְּמַרְאֵה הַלַּפִּדִים הִיא מִתְהַלֶּכֶת בֵּין הַחַיּוֹת וְנֹגַהּ לָאֵשׁ וּמִן הָאֵשׁ יוֹצֵא בָרָק. (יד) וְהַחַיּוֹת רָצוֹא וָשׁוֹב כְּמַרְאֵה הַבָּזָק. (טו) וָאֵרֶא הַחַיּוֹת וְהִנֵּה אוֹפַן אֶחָד בָּאָרֶץ אֵצֶל הַחַיּוֹת לְאַרְבַּעַת פָּנָיו. (טז) מַרְאֵה הָאוֹפַנִּים וּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כְּעֵין תַּרְשִׁישׁ וּדְמוּת אֶחָד לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן וּמַרְאֵיהֶם וּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה הָאוֹפַן בְּתוֹךְ הָאוֹפָן. (יז) עַל אַרְבַּעַת רִבְעֵיהֶן בְּלֶכְתָּם יֵלֵכוּ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְּלֶכְתָּן. (יח) וְגַבֵּיהֶן וְגֹבַהּ לָהֶם וְיִרְאָה לָהֶם וְגַבֹּתָם מְלֵאֹת עֵינַיִם סָבִיב לְאַרְבַּעְתָּן. (יט) וּבְלֶכֶת הַחַיּוֹת יֵלְכוּ הָאוֹפַנִּים אֶצְלָם וּבְהִנָּשֵׂא הַחַיּוֹת מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ יִנָּשְׂאוּ הָאוֹפַנִּים. (כ) עַל אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה שָּׁם הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת יֵלֵכוּ שָׁמָּה הָרוּחַ לָלֶכֶת וְהָאוֹפַנִּים יִנָּשְׂאוּ לְעֻמָּתָם כִּי רוּחַ הַחַיָּה בָּאוֹפַנִּים. (כא) בְּלֶכְתָּם יֵלֵכוּ וּבְעׇמְדָם יַעֲמֹדוּ וּבְהִנָּשְׂאָם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ יִנָּשְׂאוּ הָאוֹפַנִּים לְעֻמָּתָם כִּי רוּחַ הַחַיָּה בָּאוֹפַנִּים. (כב) וּדְמוּת עַל רָאשֵׁי הַחַיָּה רָקִיעַ כְּעֵין הַקֶּרַח הַנּוֹרָא נָטוּי עַל רָאשֵׁיהֶם מִלְמָעְלָה. (כג) וְתַחַת הָרָקִיעַ כַּנְפֵיהֶם יְשָׁרוֹת אִשָּׁה אֶל אֲחוֹתָהּ לְאִישׁ שְׁתַּיִם מְכַסּוֹת לָהֵנָּה וּלְאִישׁ שְׁתַּיִם מְכַסּוֹת לָהֵנָּה אֵת גְּוִיֹּתֵיהֶם. (כד) וָאֶשְׁמַע אֶת קוֹל כַּנְפֵיהֶם כְּקוֹל מַיִם רַבִּים כְּקוֹל שַׁדַּי בְּלֶכְתָּם קוֹל הֲמֻלָּה כְּקוֹל מַחֲנֶה בְּעׇמְדָם תְּרַפֶּינָה כַנְפֵיהֶן. (כה) וַיְהִי קוֹל מֵעַל לָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל רֹאשָׁם בְּעׇמְדָם תְּרַפֶּינָה כַנְפֵיהֶן. (כו) וּמִמַּעַל לָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל רֹאשָׁם כְּמַרְאֵה אֶבֶן סַפִּיר דְּמוּת כִּסֵּא וְעַל דְּמוּת הַכִּסֵּא דְּמוּת כְּמַרְאֵה אָדָם עָלָיו מִלְמָעְלָה. (כז) וָאֵרֶא כְּעֵין חַשְׁמַל כְּמַרְאֵה אֵשׁ בֵּית לָהּ סָבִיב מִמַּרְאֵה מׇתְנָיו וּלְמָעְלָה וּמִמַּרְאֵה מׇתְנָיו וּלְמַטָּה רָאִיתִי כְּמַרְאֵה אֵשׁ וְנֹגַהּ לוֹ סָבִיב. (כח) כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה בֶעָנָן בְּיוֹם הַגֶּשֶׁם כֵּן מַרְאֵה הַנֹּגַהּ סָבִיב הוּא מַרְאֵה דְּמוּת כְּבוֹד י"י וָאֶרְאֶה וָאֶפֹּל עַל פָּנַי וָאֶשְׁמַע קוֹל מְדַבֵּר.

Yechezkel 3:12-13יחזקאל ג׳:י״ב-י״ג

(12) Then a spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing: 'Blessed be the glory of the Lord from His place'; (13) also the noise of the wings of the living creatures as they touched one another, and the noise of the wheels beside them, even the noise of a great rushing.

(יב) וַתִּשָּׂאֵנִי רוּחַ וָאֶשְׁמַע אַחֲרַי קוֹל רַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל בָּרוּךְ כְּבוֹד י"י מִמְּקוֹמוֹ. (יג) וְקוֹל כַּנְפֵי הַחַיּוֹת מַשִּׁיקוֹת אִשָּׁה אֶל אֲחוֹתָהּ וְקוֹל הָאוֹפַנִּים לְעֻמָּתָם וְקוֹל רַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל.

Yechezkel 9יחזקאל ט׳

(1) Then he called in mine ears with a loud voice, saying: 'Cause ye them that have charge over the cityto draw near, every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.' (2) And, behold, six men came from the way of the upper gate, which lieth toward the north, every man with his weapon of destruction in his hand; and one man in the midst of them clothed in linen, with a writer's inkhorn on his side. And they went in, and stood beside the brazen altar. (3) And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon it was, to the threshold of the house; and He called to the man clothed in linen, who had the writer's inkhorn on his side. (4) And the Lord said unto him: 'Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that are done in the midst thereof.' (5) And to the others He said in my hearing: 'Go ye through the city after him, and smite; let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity; (6) slay utterly the old man, the young man and the maiden, and little children and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary.' Then they began at the elders that were before the house. (7) And He said unto them: 'Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain; go ye forth.' And they went forth, and smote in the city. (8) And it came to pass, while they were smiting, and I was left, that I fell upon my face, and cried, and said: 'Ah Lord God! wilt Thou destroy all the residue of Israel in Thy pouring out of Thy fury upon Jerusalem?' (9) Then said He unto me: 'The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of wresting of judgment; for they say: The Lord hath forsaken the land, and the Lord seeth not. (10) And as for Me also, Mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.' (11) And, behold, the man clothed in linen, who had the inkhorn on his side, reported, saying: 'I have done according to all that Thou hast commanded me.'

(ב) וְהִנֵּה שִׁשָּׁה אֲנָשִׁים בָּאִים מִדֶּרֶךְ שַׁעַר הָעֶלְיוֹן אֲשֶׁר מׇפְנֶה צָפוֹנָה וְאִישׁ כְּלִי מַפָּצוֹ בְּיָדוֹ וְאִישׁ אֶחָד בְּתוֹכָם לָבֻשׁ בַּדִּים וְקֶסֶת הַסֹּפֵר בְּמׇתְנָיו וַיָּבֹאוּ וַיַּעַמְדוּ אֵצֶל מִזְבַּח הַנְּחֹשֶׁת. (ג) וּכְבוֹד אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל נַעֲלָה מֵעַל הַכְּרוּב אֲשֶׁר הָיָה עָלָיו אֶל מִפְתַּן הַבָּיִת וַיִּקְרָא אֶל הָאִישׁ הַלָּבֻשׁ הַבַּדִּים אֲשֶׁר קֶסֶת הַסֹּפֵר בְּמׇתְנָיו. (ד) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֵלָו עֲבֹר בְּתוֹךְ הָעִיר בְּתוֹךְ יְרוּשָׁלָ‍ִם וְהִתְוִיתָ תָּו עַל מִצְחוֹת הָאֲנָשִׁים הַנֶּאֱנָחִים וְהַנֶּאֱנָקִים עַל כׇּל הַתּוֹעֵבוֹת הַנַּעֲשׂוֹת בְּתוֹכָהּ. (ה) וּלְאֵלֶּה אָמַר בְּאׇזְנַי עִבְרוּ בָעִיר אַחֲרָיו וְהַכּוּ [אַל] (על) תָּחֹס [עֵינְכֶם] (עיניכם) וְאַל תַּחְמֹלוּ. (ו) זָקֵן בָּחוּר וּבְתוּלָה וְטַף וְנָשִׁים תַּהַרְגוּ לְמַשְׁחִית וְעַל כׇּל אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו הַתָּו אַל תִּגַּשׁוּ וּמִמִּקְדָּשִׁי תָּחֵלּוּ וַיָּחֵלּוּ בָּאֲנָשִׁים הַזְּקֵנִים אֲשֶׁר לִפְנֵי הַבָּיִת. (ז) וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם טַמְּאוּ אֶת הַבַּיִת וּמַלְאוּ אֶת הַחֲצֵרוֹת חֲלָלִים צֵאוּ וְיָצְאוּ וְהִכּוּ בָעִיר. (ח) וַיְהִי כְּהַכּוֹתָם וְנֵאשְׁאַר אָנִי וָאֶפְּלָה עַל פָּנַי וָאֶזְעַק וָאֹמַר אֲהָהּ אֲדֹנָי יֱ־הֹוִה הֲמַשְׁחִית אַתָּה אֵת כׇּל שְׁאֵרִית יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּשׇׁפְכְּךָ אֶת חֲמָתְךָ עַל יְרוּשָׁלָ‍ִם. (ט) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי עֲוֺן בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וִיהוּדָה גָּדוֹל בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד וַתִּמָּלֵא הָאָרֶץ דָּמִים וְהָעִיר מָלְאָה מֻטֶּה כִּי אָמְרוּ עָזַב י"י אֶת הָאָרֶץ וְאֵין י"י רֹאֶה. (י) וְגַם אֲנִי לֹא תָחוֹס עֵינִי וְלֹא אֶחְמֹל דַּרְכָּם בְּרֹאשָׁם נָתָתִּי. (יא) וְהִנֵּה הָאִישׁ לְבֻשׁ הַבַּדִּים אֲשֶׁר הַקֶּסֶת בְּמׇתְנָיו מֵשִׁיב דָּבָר לֵאמֹר עָשִׂיתִי [כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר] (כאשר) צִוִּיתָנִי.

Yechezkel 10יחזקאל י׳

(1) Then I looked, and, behold, upon the firmament that was over the head of the cherubim, there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. (2) And He spoke unto the man clothed in linen, and said: 'Go in between the wheelwork, even under the cherub, and fill both thy hands with coals of fire from between the cherubim, and dash them against the city.' And he went in in my sight. (3) Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. (4) And the glory of the Lord mounted up from the cherub to the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the Lord's glory. (5) And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when He speaketh. (6) And it came to pass, when He commanded the man clothed in linen, saying: 'Take fire from between the wheelwork, from between the cherubim', that he went in, and stood beside a wheel. (7) And the cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubim unto the fire that was between the cherubim, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed in linen, who took it and went out. (8) And there appeared in the cherubim the formof a man's hand under their wings. (9) And I looked, and behold four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside one cherub, and another wheel beside another cherub; and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone. (10) And as for their appearance, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been within a wheel. (11) When they went, they went toward their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went. (12) And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had. (13) As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing The wheelwork. (14) And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of the cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. (15) And the cherubim mounted up—this is the living creature that I saw by the river Chebar. (16) And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them; and when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them. (17) When they stood, these stood, and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them; for the spirit of the living creature was in them. (18) And the glory of the Lord went forth from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. (19) And the cherubim lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight when they went forth, and the wheels beside them; and they stood at the door of the east gate of the Lord's house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. (20) This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river Chebar; and I knew that they were cherubim. (21) Every one had four faces apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings. (22) And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the faces which I saw by the river Chebar, their appearances and themselves; they went every one straight forward.

(א) וָאֶרְאֶה וְהִנֵּה אֶל הָרָקִיעַ אֲשֶׁר עַל רֹאשׁ הַכְּרֻבִים כְּאֶבֶן סַפִּיר כְּמַרְאֵה דְּמוּת כִּסֵּא נִרְאָה עֲלֵיהֶם. (ב) וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל הָאִישׁ לְבֻשׁ הַבַּדִּים וַיֹּאמֶר בֹּא אֶל בֵּינוֹת לַגַּלְגַּל אֶל תַּחַת לַכְּרוּב וּמַלֵּא חׇפְנֶיךָ גַחֲלֵי אֵשׁ מִבֵּינוֹת לַכְּרֻבִים וּזְרֹק עַל הָעִיר וַיָּבֹא לְעֵינָי. (ג) וְהַכְּרֻבִים עֹמְדִים מִימִין לַבַּיִת בְּבֹאוֹ הָאִישׁ וְהֶעָנָן מָלֵא אֶת הֶחָצֵר הַפְּנִימִית. (ד) וַיָּרׇם כְּבוֹד י"י מֵעַל הַכְּרוּב עַל מִפְתַּן הַבָּיִת וַיִּמָּלֵא הַבַּיִת אֶת הֶעָנָן וְהֶחָצֵר מָלְאָה אֶת נֹגַהּ כְּבוֹד י"י. (ה) וְקוֹל כַּנְפֵי הַכְּרוּבִים נִשְׁמַע עַד הֶחָצֵר הַחִיצֹנָה כְּקוֹל אֵל שַׁדַּי בְּדַבְּרוֹ. (ו) וַיְהִי בְּצַוֺּתוֹ אֶת הָאִישׁ לְבֻשׁ הַבַּדִּים לֵאמֹר קַח אֵשׁ מִבֵּינוֹת לַגַּלְגַּל מִבֵּינוֹת לַכְּרוּבִים וַיָּבֹא וַיַּעֲמֹד אֵצֶל הָאוֹפָן. (ז) וַיִּשְׁלַח הַכְּרוּב אֶת יָדוֹ מִבֵּינוֹת לַכְּרוּבִים אֶל הָאֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר בֵּינוֹת הַכְּרֻבִים וַיִּשָּׂא וַיִּתֵּן אֶל חׇפְנֵי לְבֻשׁ הַבַּדִּים וַיִּקַּח וַיֵּצֵא. (ח) וַיֵּרָא לַכְּרֻבִים תַּבְנִית יַד אָדָם תַּחַת כַּנְפֵיהֶם. (ט) וָאֶרְאֶה וְהִנֵּה אַרְבָּעָה אוֹפַנִּים אֵצֶל הַכְּרוּבִים אוֹפַן אֶחָד אֵצֶל הַכְּרוּב אֶחָד וְאוֹפַן אֶחָד אֵצֶל הַכְּרוּב אֶחָד וּמַרְאֵה הָאוֹפַנִּים כְּעֵין אֶבֶן תַּרְשִׁישׁ. (י) וּמַרְאֵיהֶם דְּמוּת אֶחָד לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם כַּאֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה הָאוֹפַן בְּתוֹךְ הָאוֹפָן. (יא) בְּלֶכְתָּם אֶל אַרְבַּעַת רִבְעֵיהֶם יֵלֵכוּ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְּלֶכְתָּם כִּי הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר יִפְנֶה הָרֹאשׁ אַחֲרָיו יֵלֵכוּ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ בְּלֶכְתָּם. (יב) וְכׇל בְּשָׂרָם וְגַבֵּהֶם וִידֵיהֶם וְכַנְפֵיהֶם וְהָאוֹפַנִּים מְלֵאִים עֵינַיִם סָבִיב לְאַרְבַּעְתָּם אוֹפַנֵּיהֶם. (יג) לָאוֹפַנִּים לָהֶם קוֹרָא הַגַּלְגַּל בְּאׇזְנָי. (יד) וְאַרְבָּעָה פָנִים לְאֶחָד פְּנֵי הָאֶחָד פְּנֵי הַכְּרוּב וּפְנֵי הַשֵּׁנִי פְּנֵי אָדָם וְהַשְּׁלִישִׁי פְּנֵי אַרְיֵה וְהָרְבִיעִי פְּנֵי נָשֶׁר. (טו) וַיֵּרֹמּוּ הַכְּרוּבִים הִיא הַחַיָּה אֲשֶׁר רָאִיתִי בִּנְהַר כְּבָר. (טז) וּבְלֶכֶת הַכְּרוּבִים יֵלְכוּ הָאוֹפַנִּים אֶצְלָם וּבִשְׂאֵת הַכְּרוּבִים אֶת כַּנְפֵיהֶם לָרוּם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ לֹא יִסַּבּוּ הָאוֹפַנִּים גַּם הֵם מֵאֶצְלָם. (יז) בְּעׇמְדָם יַעֲמֹדוּ וּבְרוֹמָם יֵרוֹמּוּ אוֹתָם כִּי רוּחַ הַחַיָּה בָּהֶם. (יח) וַיֵּצֵא כְּבוֹד י"י מֵעַל מִפְתַּן הַבָּיִת וַיַּעֲמֹד עַל הַכְּרוּבִים. (יט) וַיִּשְׂאוּ הַכְּרוּבִים אֶת כַּנְפֵיהֶם וַיֵּרוֹמּוּ מִן הָאָרֶץ לְעֵינַי בְּצֵאתָם וְהָאוֹפַנִּים לְעֻמָּתָם וַיַּעֲמֹד פֶּתַח שַׁעַר בֵּית י"י הַקַּדְמוֹנִי וּכְבוֹד אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עֲלֵיהֶם מִלְמָעְלָה. (כ) הִיא הַחַיָּה אֲשֶׁר רָאִיתִי תַּחַת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בִּנְהַר כְּבָר וָאֵדַע כִּי כְרוּבִים הֵמָּה. (כא) אַרְבָּעָה אַרְבָּעָה פָנִים לְאֶחָד וְאַרְבַּע כְּנָפַיִם לְאֶחָד וּדְמוּת יְדֵי אָדָם תַּחַת כַּנְפֵיהֶם. (כב) וּדְמוּת פְּנֵיהֶם הֵמָּה הַפָּנִים אֲשֶׁר רָאִיתִי עַל נְהַר כְּבָר מַרְאֵיהֶם וְאוֹתָם אִישׁ אֶל עֵבֶר פָּנָיו יֵלֵכוּ.

Yechezkel 11:22יחזקאל י״א:כ״ב

Then did the cherubim lift up their wings, and the wheels were beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

וַיִּשְׂאוּ הַכְּרוּבִים אֶת כַּנְפֵיהֶם וְהָאוֹפַנִּים לְעֻמָּתָם וּכְבוֹד אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עֲלֵיהֶם מִלְמָעְלָה.

Hoshea 12:4-5הושע י״ב:ד׳-ה׳

(4) In the womb he took his brother by the heel, And by his strength he strove with a godlike being; (5) So he strove with an angel, and prevailed; He wept, and made supplication unto him; At Beth-el he would find him, And there he would speak with us.

(ד) בַּבֶּטֶן עָקַב אֶת אָחִיו וּבְאוֹנוֹ שָׂרָה אֶת אֱלֹהִים. (ה) וַיָּשַׂר אֶל מַלְאָךְ וַיֻּכָל בָּכָה וַיִּתְחַנֶּן לוֹ בֵּית אֵל יִמְצָאֶנּוּ וְשָׁם יְדַבֵּר עִמָּנוּ.

Chaggai 1:13חגי א׳:י״ג

Then spoke Haggai the Lord's messenger in the Lord's message unto the people, saying: 'I am with you, saith the Lord.' house.

וַיֹּאמֶר חַגַּי מַלְאַךְ י״י בְּמַלְאֲכוּת י״י לָעָם לֵאמֹר אֲנִי אִתְּכֶם נְאֻם י״י.

Zekharyah 1:7-14זכריה א׳:ז׳-י״ד

(7) Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying— (8) I saw in the night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horses, red, sorrel, and white. (9) Then said I: 'O my lord, what are these?' And the angel that spoke with me said unto me: 'I will show thee what these are.' (10) And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said: 'These are they whom the Lord hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.' (11) And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said: 'We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.' (12) Then the angel of the Lord spoke and said: 'O Lord of hosts, how long wilt Thou not have compassion on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which Thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?' (13) And the Lord answered the angel that spoke with me with good words, even comforting words— (14) so the angel that spoke with me said unto me : 'Proclaim thou, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy;

(ז) בְּיוֹם עֶשְׂרִים וְאַרְבָּעָה לְעַשְׁתֵּי עָשָׂר חֹדֶשׁ הוּא חֹדֶשׁ שְׁבָט בִּשְׁנַת שְׁתַּיִם לְדָרְיָוֶשׁ הָיָה דְבַר י"י אֶל זְכַרְיָה בֶּן בֶּרֶכְיָהוּ בֶּן עִדּוֹא הַנָּבִיא לֵאמֹר. (ח) רָאִיתִי הַלַּיְלָה וְהִנֵּה אִישׁ רֹכֵב עַל סוּס אָדֹם וְהוּא עֹמֵד בֵּין הַהֲדַסִּים אֲשֶׁר בַּמְּצֻלָה וְאַחֲרָיו סוּסִים אֲדֻמִּים שְׂרֻקִּים וּלְבָנִים. (ט) וָאֹמַר מָה אֵלֶּה אֲדֹנִי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי אֲנִי אַרְאֶךָּ מָה הֵמָּה אֵלֶּה. (י) וַיַּעַן הָאִישׁ הָעֹמֵד בֵּין הַהֲדַסִּים וַיֹּאמַר אֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח י"י לְהִתְהַלֵּךְ בָּאָרֶץ. (יא) וַיַּעֲנוּ אֶת מַלְאַךְ י"י הָעֹמֵד בֵּין הַהֲדַסִּים וַיֹּאמְרוּ הִתְהַלַּכְנוּ בָאָרֶץ וְהִנֵּה כׇל הָאָרֶץ יֹשֶׁבֶת וְשֹׁקָטֶת. (יב) וַיַּעַן מַלְאַךְ י"י וַיֹּאמַר י"י צְבָאוֹת עַד מָתַי אַתָּה לֹא תְרַחֵם אֶת יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם וְאֵת עָרֵי יְהוּדָה אֲשֶׁר זָעַמְתָּה זֶה שִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה. (יג) וַיַּעַן י"י אֶת הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי דְּבָרִים טוֹבִים דְּבָרִים נִחֻמִים. (יד) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי קְרָא לֵאמֹר כֹּה אָמַר י"י צְבָאוֹת קִנֵּאתִי לִירוּשָׁלַ‍ִם וּלְצִיּוֹן קִנְאָה גְדוֹלָה.

Zekharyah 2:1-9זכריה ב׳:א׳-ט׳

(1) And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold four horns. (2) And I said unto the angel that spoke with me: 'What are these?' And he said unto me: 'These are the horns whichhave scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.' (3) And the Lord showed me four craftsmen. (4) Then said I: 'What come these to do?' And he spoke, saying: 'These—the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head—these then are come to frighten them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.' (5) And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold a man with a measuring line in his hand. (6) Then said I: 'Whither goest thou?' And he said unto me: 'To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.' (7) And, behold, the angel that spoke with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him, (8) and said unto him: 'Run, speak to this young man, saying: Jerusalem shall be inhabited without walls, for the multitude of men and cattle therein. (9) For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and I will be the glory in the midst of her.

(א) וָאֶשָּׂא אֶת עֵינַי וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה אַרְבַּע קְרָנוֹת. (ב) וָאֹמַר אֶל הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי מָה אֵלֶּה וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי אֵלֶּה הַקְּרָנוֹת אֲשֶׁר זֵרוּ אֶת יְהוּדָה אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל וִירוּשָׁלָ‍ִם. (ג) וַיַּרְאֵנִי י"י אַרְבָּעָה חָרָשִׁים. (ד) וָאֹמַר מָה אֵלֶּה בָאִים לַעֲשׂוֹת וַיֹּאמֶר לֵאמֹר אֵלֶּה הַקְּרָנוֹת אֲשֶׁר זֵרוּ אֶת יְהוּדָה כְּפִי אִישׁ לֹא נָשָׂא רֹאשׁוֹ וַיָּבֹאוּ אֵלֶּה לְהַחֲרִיד אֹתָם לְיַדּוֹת אֶת קַרְנוֹת הַגּוֹיִם הַנֹּשְׂאִים קֶרֶן אֶל אֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה לְזָרוֹתָהּ. (ה) וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה אִישׁ וּבְיָדוֹ חֶבֶל מִדָּה. (ו) וָאֹמַר אָנָה אַתָּה הֹלֵךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי לָמֹד אֶת יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם לִרְאוֹת כַּמָּה רׇחְבָּהּ וְכַמָּה אׇרְכָּהּ. (ז) וְהִנֵּה הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי יֹצֵא וּמַלְאָךְ אַחֵר יֹצֵא לִקְרָאתוֹ. (ח) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָו רֻץ דַּבֵּר אֶל הַנַּעַר הַלָּז לֵאמֹר פְּרָזוֹת תֵּשֵׁב יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם מֵרֹב אָדָם וּבְהֵמָה בְּתוֹכָהּ. (ט) וַאֲנִי אֶהְיֶה לָּהּ נְאֻם י"י חוֹמַת אֵשׁ סָבִיב וּלְכָבוֹד אֶהְיֶה בְתוֹכָהּ.

Zekharyah 3זכריה ג׳

(1) And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. (2) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'The Lord rebuke thee, Satan, yea, the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee; is not this man a brand plucked out of the fire?' (3) Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. (4) And he answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying: 'Take the filthy garments from off him.' And unto him he said: 'Behold, I cause thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with robes.' (5) And I said: 'Let them set a fair mitre upon his head.' So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments; and the angel of the Lord stood by. (6) And the angel of the Lord forewarned Joshua, saying: (7) 'Thus saith the Lord of hosts: If thou wilt walk in My ways, and if thou wilt keep My charge, and wilt also judge My house, and wilt also keep My courts, then I will give thee free access among these that stand by. (8) Hear now, Joshua the high priest, thou and thy fellows that sit before thee; for they are men that are a sign; for, behold, I will bring forth My servant the Shoot. (9) For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone are seven facets;behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts. And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. (10) In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig-tree.'

(ב) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן יִגְעַר י"י בְּךָ הַשָּׂטָן וְיִגְעַר י"י בְּךָ הַבֹּחֵר בִּירוּשָׁלָ‍ִם הֲלוֹא זֶה אוּד מֻצָּל מֵאֵשׁ. (ג) וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ הָיָה לָבֻשׁ בְּגָדִים צוֹאִים וְעֹמֵד לִפְנֵי הַמַּלְאָךְ. (ד) וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל הָעֹמְדִים לְפָנָיו לֵאמֹר הָסִירוּ הַבְּגָדִים הַצֹּאִים מֵעָלָיו וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו רְאֵה הֶעֱבַרְתִּי מֵעָלֶיךָ עֲוֺנֶךָ וְהַלְבֵּשׁ אֹתְךָ מַחֲלָצוֹת. (ה) וָאֹמַר יָשִׂימוּ צָנִיף טָהוֹר עַל רֹאשׁוֹ וַיָּשִׂימוּ הַצָּנִיף הַטָּהוֹר עַל רֹאשׁוֹ וַיַּלְבִּשֻׁהוּ בְּגָדִים וּמַלְאַךְ י"י עֹמֵד. (ו) וַיָּעַד מַלְאַךְ י"י בִּיהוֹשֻׁעַ לֵאמֹר. (ז) כֹּה אָמַר י"י צְבָאוֹת אִם בִּדְרָכַי תֵּלֵךְ וְאִם אֶת מִשְׁמַרְתִּי תִשְׁמֹר וְגַם אַתָּה תָּדִין אֶת בֵּיתִי וְגַם תִּשְׁמֹר אֶת חֲצֵרָי וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ מַהְלְכִים בֵּין הָעֹמְדִים הָאֵלֶּה. (ח) שְׁמַע נָא יְהוֹשֻׁעַ הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל אַתָּה וְרֵעֶיךָ הַיֹּשְׁבִים לְפָנֶיךָ כִּי אַנְשֵׁי מוֹפֵת הֵמָּה כִּי הִנְנִי מֵבִיא אֶת עַבְדִּי צֶמַח. (ט) כִּי הִנֵּה הָאֶבֶן אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לִפְנֵי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ עַל אֶבֶן אַחַת שִׁבְעָה עֵינָיִם הִנְנִי מְפַתֵּחַ פִּתֻּחָהּ נְאֻם י"י צְבָאוֹת וּמַשְׁתִּי אֶת עֲוֺן הָאָרֶץ הַהִיא בְּיוֹם אֶחָד. (י) בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא נְאֻם י"י צְבָאוֹת תִּקְרְאוּ אִישׁ לְרֵעֵהוּ אֶל תַּחַת גֶּפֶן וְאֶל תַּחַת תְּאֵנָה.

Zekharyah 4זכריה ד׳

(1) And the angel that spoke with me returned, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. (2) And he said unto me: 'What seest thou?' And I said: 'I have seen, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; there are seven pipes, yea, seven, to the lamps, which are upon the top thereof; (3) and two olive-trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.' (4) And I answered and spoke to the angel that spoke with me, saying: 'What are these, my lord?' (5) Then the angel that spoke with me answered and said unto me: 'Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: 'No, my lord.' (6) Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying: 'This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying: Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. (7) Who art thou, great mountain before Zerubbabel? thou shalt become a plain; and he shall bring forth the top stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it.' (8) Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying: (9) 'The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you. (10) For who hath despised the day of small things? even they shall see with joy the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel, even these seven, which are the eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth.' (11) Then answered I, and said unto him: 'What are these two olive-trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?' (12) And I answered the second time, and said unto him: 'What are these two olive branches, which are beside the two golden spouts, that empty the golden oil out of themselves?' (13) And he answered me and said: 'Knowest thou not what these are?' And I said: 'No, my lord.' (14) Then said he: 'These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.'

(א) וַיָּשׇׁב הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי וַיְעִירֵנִי כְּאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יֵעוֹר מִשְּׁנָתוֹ. (ב) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי מָה אַתָּה רֹאֶה [וָאֹמַר] (ויאמר) רָאִיתִי וְהִנֵּה מְנוֹרַת זָהָב כֻּלָּהּ וְגֻלָּהּ עַל רֹאשָׁהּ וְשִׁבְעָה נֵרֹתֶיהָ עָלֶיהָ שִׁבְעָה וְשִׁבְעָה מוּצָקוֹת לַנֵּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל רֹאשָׁהּ. (ג) וּשְׁנַיִם זֵיתִים עָלֶיהָ אֶחָד מִימִין הַגֻּלָּה וְאֶחָד עַל שְׂמֹאלָהּ. (ד) וָאַעַן וָאֹמַר אֶל הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי לֵאמֹר מָה אֵלֶּה אֲדֹנִי. (ה) וַיַּעַן הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי הֲלוֹא יָדַעְתָּ מָה הֵמָּה אֵלֶּה וָאֹמַר לֹא אֲדֹנִי. (ו) וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי לֵאמֹר זֶה דְּבַר י"י אֶל זְרֻבָּבֶל לֵאמֹר לֹא בְחַיִל וְלֹא בְכֹחַ כִּי אִם בְּרוּחִי אָמַר י"י צְבָאוֹת. (ז) מִי אַתָּה הַר הַגָּדוֹל לִפְנֵי זְרֻבָּבֶל לְמִישֹׁר וְהוֹצִיא אֶת הָאֶבֶן הָרֹאשָׁה תְּשֻׁאוֹת חֵן חֵן לָהּ. (ח) וַיְהִי דְבַר י"י אֵלַי לֵאמֹר. (ט) יְדֵי זְרֻבָּבֶל יִסְּדוּ הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה וְיָדָיו תְּבַצַּעְנָה וְיָדַעְתָּ כִּי י"י צְבָאוֹת שְׁלָחַנִי אֲלֵיכֶם. (י) כִּי מִי בַז לְיוֹם קְטַנּוֹת וְשָׂמְחוּ וְרָאוּ אֶת הָאֶבֶן הַבְּדִיל בְּיַד זְרֻבָּבֶל שִׁבְעָה אֵלֶּה עֵינֵי י"י הֵמָּה מְשׁוֹטְטִים בְּכׇל הָאָרֶץ. (יא) וָאַעַן וָאֹמַר אֵלָיו מַה שְּׁנֵי הַזֵּיתִים הָאֵלֶּה עַל יְמִין הַמְּנוֹרָה וְעַל שְׂמֹאולָהּ. (יב) וָאַעַן שֵׁנִית וָאֹמַר אֵלָיו מַה שְׁתֵּי שִׁבְּלֵי הַזֵּיתִים אֲשֶׁר בְּיַד שְׁנֵי צַנְתְּרוֹת הַזָּהָב הַמְרִיקִים מֵעֲלֵיהֶם הַזָּהָב. (יג) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי לֵאמֹר הֲלוֹא יָדַעְתָּ מָה אֵלֶּה וָאֹמַר לֹא אֲדֹנִי. (יד) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלֶּה שְׁנֵי בְנֵי הַיִּצְהָר הָעֹמְדִים עַל אֲדוֹן כׇּל הָאָרֶץ.

Zekharyah 5זכריה ה׳

(1) Then again I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold a flying roll. (2) And he said unto me: 'What seest thou?' And I answered: 'I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.' (3) Then said he unto me: 'This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole land; for every one that stealeth shall be swept away on the one side like it; and every one that sweareth shall be swept away on the other side like it. (4) I cause it to go forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by My name; and it shall abide in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.' (5) Then the angel that spoke with me went forth, and said unto me: 'Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.' (6) And I said: 'What is it?' And he said: 'This is the measure that goeth forth.' He said moreover: 'This is their eye in all the land— (7) and, behold, there was lifted up a round piece of lead—and this is a woman sitting in the midst of the measure.' (8) And he said: 'This is Wickedness.' And he casther down into the midst of the measure, and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. (9) Then lifted I up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there came forth two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork; and they lifted up the measure between the earth and the heaven. (10) Then said I to the angel that spoke with me: 'Whither do these bear the measure?' (11) And he said unto me: 'To build her a house in the land of Shinar; and when it is prepared, she shall be set there in her own place.'

(א) וָאָשׁוּב וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֶרְאֶה וְהִנֵּה מְגִלָּה עָפָה. (ב) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי מָה אַתָּה רֹאֶה וָאֹמַר אֲנִי רֹאֶה מְגִלָּה עָפָה אׇרְכָּהּ עֶשְׂרִים בָּאַמָּה וְרׇחְבָּהּ עֶשֶׂר בָּאַמָּה. (ג) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי זֹאת הָאָלָה הַיּוֹצֵאת עַל פְּנֵי כׇל הָאָרֶץ כִּי כׇל הַגֹּנֵב מִזֶּה כָּמוֹהָ נִקָּה וְכׇל הַנִּשְׁבָּע מִזֶּה כָּמוֹהָ נִקָּה. (ד) הוֹצֵאתִיהָ נְאֻם י״י צְבָאוֹת וּבָאָה אֶל בֵּית הַגַּנָּב וְאֶל בֵּית הַנִּשְׁבָּע בִּשְׁמִי לַשָּׁקֶר וְלָנֶה בְּתוֹךְ בֵּיתוֹ וְכִלַּתּוּ וְאֶת עֵצָיו וְאֶת אֲבָנָיו. (ה) וַיֵּצֵא הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי שָׂא נָא עֵינֶיךָ וּרְאֵה מָה הַיּוֹצֵאת הַזֹּאת. (ו) וָאֹמַר מַה הִיא וַיֹּאמֶר זֹאת הָאֵיפָה הַיּוֹצֵאת וַיֹּאמֶר זֹאת עֵינָם בְּכׇל הָאָרֶץ. (ז) וְהִנֵּה כִּכַּר עֹפֶרֶת נִשֵּׂאת וְזֹאת אִשָּׁה אַחַת יוֹשֶׁבֶת בְּתוֹךְ הָאֵיפָה. (ח) וַיֹּאמֶר זֹאת הָרִשְׁעָה וַיַּשְׁלֵךְ אֹתָהּ אֶל תּוֹךְ הָאֵיפָה וַיַּשְׁלֵךְ אֶת אֶבֶן הָעוֹפֶרֶת אֶל פִּיהָ. (ט) וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה שְׁתַּיִם נָשִׁים יוֹצְאוֹת וְרוּחַ בְּכַנְפֵיהֶם וְלָהֵנָּה כְנָפַיִם כְּכַנְפֵי הַחֲסִידָה וַתִּשֶּׂאנָה אֶת הָאֵיפָה בֵּין הָאָרֶץ וּבֵין הַשָּׁמָיִם. (י) וָאֹמַר אֶל הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי אָנָה הֵמָּה מוֹלִכוֹת אֶת הָאֵיפָה. (יא) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי לִבְנוֹת לָה בַיִת בְּאֶרֶץ שִׁנְעָר וְהוּכַן וְהֻנִּיחָה שָּׁם עַל מְכֻנָתָהּ.

Zekharyah 6:1-8זכריה ו׳:א׳-ח׳

(1) And again I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between the two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass. (2) In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses; (3) and in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grizzled bay horses. (4) Then I answered and said unto the angel that spoke with me: 'What are these, my lord?' (5) And the angel answered and said unto me: 'These chariots go forth to the four winds of heaven, after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth. (6) That wherein are the black horses goeth forth toward the north country; and the white went forth after them; and the grizzled went forth toward the south country; (7) and the bay went forth.' And they sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth; and he said: 'Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth.' So they walked to and fro through the earth. (8) Then cried he upon me, and spoke unto me, saying: 'Behold, they that go toward the north country have eased My spirit in the north country.'

(א) וָאָשֻׁב וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֶרְאֶה וְהִנֵּה אַרְבַּע מַרְכָּבוֹת יֹצְאוֹת מִבֵּין שְׁנֵי הֶהָרִים וְהֶהָרִים הָרֵי נְחֹשֶׁת. (ב) בַּמֶּרְכָּבָה הָרִאשֹׁנָה סוּסִים אֲדֻמִּים וּבַמֶּרְכָּבָה הַשֵּׁנִית סוּסִים שְׁחֹרִים. (ג) וּבַמֶּרְכָּבָה הַשְּׁלִשִׁית סוּסִים לְבָנִים וּבַמֶּרְכָּבָה הָרְבִעִית סוּסִים בְּרֻדִּים אֲמֻצִּים. (ד) וָאַעַן וָאֹמַר אֶל הַמַּלְאָךְ הַדֹּבֵר בִּי מָה אֵלֶּה אֲדֹנִי. (ה) וַיַּעַן הַמַּלְאָךְ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָי אֵלֶּה אַרְבַּע רוּחוֹת הַשָּׁמַיִם יוֹצְאוֹת מֵהִתְיַצֵּב עַל אֲדוֹן כׇּל הָאָרֶץ. (ו) אֲשֶׁר בָּהּ הַסּוּסִים הַשְּׁחֹרִים יֹצְאִים אֶל אֶרֶץ צָפוֹן וְהַלְּבָנִים יָצְאוּ אֶל אַחֲרֵיהֶם וְהַבְּרֻדִּים יָצְאוּ אֶל אֶרֶץ הַתֵּימָן. (ז) וְהָאֲמֻצִּים יָצְאוּ וַיְבַקְשׁוּ לָלֶכֶת לְהִתְהַלֵּךְ בָּאָרֶץ וַיֹּאמֶר לְכוּ הִתְהַלְּכוּ בָאָרֶץ וַתִּתְהַלַּכְנָה בָּאָרֶץ. (ח) וַיַּזְעֵק אֹתִי וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלַי לֵאמֹר רְאֵה הַיּוֹצְאִים אֶל אֶרֶץ צָפוֹן הֵנִיחוּ אֶת רוּחִי בְּאֶרֶץ צָפוֹן.

In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; And he that stumbleth among them at that day shall be as David, And the house of David shall be as a godlike being, As the angel of the Lord before them.

Malakhi 3:1-3מלאכי ג׳:א׳-ג׳

(1) Behold, I send My messenger, And he shall clear the way before Me, And the Lord, whom ye seek, Will suddenly come to His temple; And the messenger of the covenant, Whom ye delight in, Behold, he cometh, Saith the Lord of hosts. (2) But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner's fire, And like fullers' soap; (3) And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, And he shall purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver; And there shall be they that shall offer unto the Lord Offerings in righteousness.

(א) הִנְנִי שֹׁלֵחַ מַלְאָכִי וּפִנָּה דֶרֶךְ לְפָנָי וּפִתְאֹם יָבוֹא אֶל הֵיכָלוֹ הָאָדוֹן אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם מְבַקְשִׁים וּמַלְאַךְ הַבְּרִית אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם חֲפֵצִים הִנֵּה בָא אָמַר י"י צְבָאוֹת. (ב) וּמִי מְכַלְכֵּל אֶת יוֹם בּוֹאוֹ וּמִי הָעֹמֵד בְּהֵרָאוֹתוֹ כִּי הוּא כְּאֵשׁ מְצָרֵף וּכְבֹרִית מְכַבְּסִים. (ג) וְיָשַׁב מְצָרֵף וּמְטַהֵר כֶּסֶף וְטִהַר אֶת בְּנֵי לֵוִי וְזִקַּק אֹתָם כַּזָּהָב וְכַכָּסֶף וְהָיוּ לַי"י מַגִּישֵׁי מִנְחָה בִּצְדָקָה.

The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, And delivereth them.

(מה) יְשַׁלַּח בָּהֶם עָרֹב וַיֹּאכְלֵם וּצְפַרְדֵּעַ וַתַּשְׁחִיתֵם. (מו) וַיִּתֵּן לֶחָסִיל יְבוּלָם וִיגִיעָם לָאַרְבֶּה. (מז) יַהֲרֹג בַּבָּרָד גַּפְנָם וְשִׁקְמוֹתָם בַּחֲנָמַל. (מח) וַיַּסְגֵּר לַבָּרָד בְּעִירָם וּמִקְנֵיהֶם לָרְשָׁפִים. (מט) יְשַׁלַּח בָּם חֲרוֹן אַפּוֹ עֶבְרָה וָזַעַם וְצָרָה מִשְׁלַחַת מַלְאֲכֵי רָעִים. (נ) יְפַלֵּס נָתִיב לְאַפּוֹ לֹא חָשַׂךְ מִמָּוֶת נַפְשָׁם וְחַיָּתָם לַדֶּבֶר הִסְגִּיר. (נא) וַיַּךְ כׇּל בְּכוֹר בְּמִצְרָיִם רֵאשִׁית אוֹנִים בְּאׇהֳלֵי חָם.

(א) הַלְלוּ יָהּ הַלְלוּ אֶת י"י מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם הַלְלוּהוּ בַּמְּרוֹמִים. (ב) הַלְלוּהוּ כׇל מַלְאָכָיו הַלְלוּהוּ כׇּל צְבָאָו. (ג) הַלְלוּהוּ שֶׁמֶשׁ וְיָרֵחַ הַלְלוּהוּ כׇּל כּוֹכְבֵי אוֹר.

Iyyov 1:6-12איוב א׳:ו׳-י״ב

(6) Now it fell upon a day, that the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. (7) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'Whence comest thou?' Then Satan answered the Lord, and said: 'From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.' (8) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'Hast thou considered My servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a whole-hearted and an upright man, one that feareth God, and shunneth evil?' (9) Then Satan answered the Lord, and said: 'Doth Job fear God for nought? (10) Hast not Thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions are increased in the land. (11) But put forth Thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, surely he will blaspheme Thee to Thy face.' (12) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand.' So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.

(ו) וַיְהִי הַיּוֹם וַיָּבֹאוּ בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים לְהִתְיַצֵּב עַל י"י וַיָּבוֹא גַם הַשָּׂטָן בְּתוֹכָם. (ז) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן מֵאַיִן תָּבֹא וַיַּעַן הַשָּׂטָן אֶת י"י וַיֹּאמַר מִשּׁוּט בָּאָרֶץ וּמֵהִתְהַלֵּךְ בָּהּ. (ח) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן הֲשַׂמְתָּ לִבְּךָ עַל עַבְדִּי אִיּוֹב כִּי אֵין כָּמֹהוּ בָּאָרֶץ אִישׁ תָּם וְיָשָׁר יְרֵא אֱלֹהִים וְסָר מֵרָע. (ט) וַיַּעַן הַשָּׂטָן אֶת י"י וַיֹּאמַר הַחִנָּם יָרֵא אִיּוֹב אֱלֹהִים. (י) הֲלֹא [אַתָּה] (את) שַׂכְתָּ בַעֲדוֹ וּבְעַד בֵּיתוֹ וּבְעַד כׇּל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ מִסָּבִיב מַעֲשֵׂה יָדָיו בֵּרַכְתָּ וּמִקְנֵהוּ פָּרַץ בָּאָרֶץ. (יא) וְאוּלָם שְׁלַח נָא יָדְךָ וְגַע בְּכׇל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ אִם לֹא עַל פָּנֶיךָ יְבָרְכֶךָּ. (יב) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן הִנֵּה כׇל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ בְּיָדֶךָ רַק אֵלָיו אַל תִּשְׁלַח יָדֶךָ וַיֵּצֵא הַשָּׂטָן מֵעִם פְּנֵי י"י.

Iyyov 2:1-7איוב ב׳:א׳-ז׳

(1) Again it fell upon a day, that the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. (2) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'From whence comest thou?' And Satan answered the Lord, and said: 'From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.' (3) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'Hast thou considered My servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a whole-hearted and an upright man, one that feareth God, and shunneth evil? and he still holdeth fast his integrity, although thou didst move Me against him, to destroy him without cause.' (4) And Satan answered the Lord, and said: 'Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. (5) But put forth Thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, surely he will blaspheme Thee to Thy face.' (6) And the Lord said unto Satan: 'Behold, he is in thy hand; only spare his life.' (7) So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot even unto his crown.

(א) וַיְהִי הַיּוֹם וַיָּבֹאוּ בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים לְהִתְיַצֵּב עַל י"י וַיָּבוֹא גַם הַשָּׂטָן בְּתֹכָם לְהִתְיַצֵּב עַל י"י. (ב) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן אֵי מִזֶּה תָּבֹא וַיַּעַן הַשָּׂטָן אֶת י"י וַיֹּאמַר מִשֻּׁט בָּאָרֶץ וּמֵהִתְהַלֵּךְ בָּהּ. (ג) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן הֲשַׂמְתָּ לִבְּךָ אֶל עַבְדִּי אִיּוֹב כִּי אֵין כָּמֹהוּ בָּאָרֶץ אִישׁ תָּם וְיָשָׁר יְרֵא אֱלֹהִים וְסָר מֵרָע וְעֹדֶנּוּ מַחֲזִיק בְּתֻמָּתוֹ וַתְּסִיתֵנִי בוֹ לְבַלְּעוֹ חִנָּם. (ד) וַיַּעַן הַשָּׂטָן אֶת י"י וַיֹּאמַר עוֹר בְּעַד עוֹר וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר לָאִישׁ יִתֵּן בְּעַד נַפְשׁוֹ. (ה) אוּלָם שְׁלַח נָא יָדְךָ וְגַע אֶל עַצְמוֹ וְאֶל בְּשָׂרוֹ אִם לֹא אֶל פָּנֶיךָ יְבָרְכֶךָּ. (ו) וַיֹּאמֶר י"י אֶל הַשָּׂטָן הִנּוֹ בְיָדֶךָ אַךְ אֶת נַפְשׁוֹ שְׁמֹר. (ז) וַיֵּצֵא הַשָּׂטָן מֵאֵת פְּנֵי י"י וַיַּךְ אֶת אִיּוֹב בִּשְׁחִין רָע מִכַּף רַגְלוֹ [וְעַד] (עד) קׇדְקֳדוֹ.

Iyyov 4:17-18איוב ד׳:י״ז-י״ח

(17) 'Shall mortal man be just before God? Shall a man be pure before his Maker? (18) Behold, He putteth no trust in His servants, And His angels He chargeth with folly;

(יז) הַאֱנוֹשׁ מֵאֱלוֹהַּ יִצְדָּק אִם מֵעֹשֵׂהוּ יִטְהַר גָּבֶר. (יח) הֵן בַּעֲבָדָיו לֹא יַאֲמִין וּבְמַלְאָכָיו יָשִׂים תׇּהֳלָה.

Iyyov 33:23איוב ל״ג:כ״ג

If there be for him an angel, An intercessor, one among a thousand, To vouch for a man's uprightness;

אִם יֵשׁ עָלָיו מַלְאָךְ מֵלִיץ אֶחָד מִנִּי אָלֶף לְהַגִּיד לְאָדָם יָשְׁרוֹ.

Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?

אַל תִּתֵּן אֶת פִּיךָ לַחֲטִיא אֶת בְּשָׂרֶךָ וְאַל תֹּאמַר לִפְנֵי הַמַּלְאָךְ כִּי שְׁגָגָה הִיא לָמָּה יִקְצֹף הָאֱלֹהִים עַל קוֹלֶךָ וְחִבֵּל אֶת מַעֲשֵׂה יָדֶיךָ.

Daniel 8:13-18דניאל ח׳:י״ג-י״ח

(13) Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said unto that certain one who spoke: 'How long shall be the vision concerning the continual burnt-offering, and the transgression that causes appalment, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trampled under foot?' (14) And he said unto me: 'Unto two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary be victorious.' (15) And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, that I sought to understand it; and, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. (16) And I heard the voice of a man between the banks of Ulai, who called, and said: 'Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.' (17) So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was terrified, and fell upon my face; but he said unto me: 'Understand, O son of man; for the vision belongeth to the time of the end.' (18) Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and set me upright.

(יג) וָאֶשְׁמְעָה אֶחָד קָדוֹשׁ מְדַבֵּר וַיֹּאמֶר אֶחָד קָדוֹשׁ לַפַּלְמוֹנִי הַמְדַבֵּר עַד מָתַי הֶחָזוֹן הַתָּמִיד וְהַפֶּשַׁע שֹׁמֵם תֵּת וְקֹדֶשׁ וְצָבָא מִרְמָס. (יד) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי עַד עֶרֶב בֹּקֶר אַלְפַּיִם וּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת וְנִצְדַּק קֹדֶשׁ. (טו) וַיְהִי בִּרְאֹתִי אֲנִי דָנִיֵּאל אֶת הֶחָזוֹן וָאֲבַקְשָׁה בִינָה וְהִנֵּה עֹמֵד לְנֶגְדִּי כְּמַרְאֵה גָבֶר. (טז) וָאֶשְׁמַע קוֹל אָדָם בֵּין אוּלָי וַיִּקְרָא וַיֹּאמַר גַּבְרִיאֵל הָבֵן לְהַלָּז אֶת הַמַּרְאֶה. (יז) וַיָּבֹא אֵצֶל עׇמְדִי וּבְבֹאוֹ נִבְעַתִּי וָאֶפְּלָה עַל פָּנָי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי הָבֵן בֶּן אָדָם כִּי לְעֶת קֵץ הֶחָזוֹן. (יח) וּבְדַבְּרוֹ עִמִּי נִרְדַּמְתִּי עַל פָּנַי אָרְצָה וַיִּגַּע בִּי וַיַּעֲמִידֵנִי עַל עׇמְדִי.

Daniel 9:21דניאל ט׳:כ״א

yea, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel,whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, approached close to me about the time of the evening offering.

וְעוֹד אֲנִי מְדַבֵּר בַּתְּפִלָּה וְהָאִישׁ גַּבְרִיאֵל אֲשֶׁר רָאִיתִי בֶחָזוֹן בַּתְּחִלָּה מֻעָף בִּיעָף נֹגֵעַ אֵלַי כְּעֵת מִנְחַת עָרֶב.

Daniel 10:4-21דניאל י׳:ד׳-כ״א

(4) And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Tigris, (5) I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz; (6) his body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as torches of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to burnished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. (7) And I Daniel alone saw the vision; for the men that were with me saw not the vision; howbeit a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. (8) So that I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me; for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. (9) Yet heard I the voice of his words; and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I fallen into a deep sleep on my face, with my face toward the ground. (10) And, behold, a hand touched me, which set me tottering upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. (11) And he said unto me: 'O Daniel, thou man greatly beloved, give heed unto the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright; for now am I sent unto thee'; and when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. (12) Then said he unto me: 'Fear not, Daniel; for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to understand, and to humblethyself before thy God, thy words were heard; and I am come because of thy words. (13) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days; but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I was left over there beside the kings of Persia. (14) Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the end of days; for there is yet a vision for the days.' (15) And when he had spoken unto me according to these words, I set my face toward the ground, and was dumb. (16) And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth, and spoke and said unto him that stood before me: 'O my lord, by reason of the vision my pains are come upon me, and I retain no strength. (17) For how can this servant of my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither was there breath left in me.' (18) Then there touched me again one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me. (19) And he said: 'O man greatly beloved, fear not! peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong.' And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said: 'Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.' (20) Then said he: Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I go forth, lo, the prince of Greece shall come. (21) Howbeit I will declare unto thee that which is inscribed in the writing of truth; and there is none that holdeth with me against these, except Michael your prince.

(ד) וּבְיוֹם עֶשְׂרִים וְאַרְבָּעָה לַחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשׁוֹן וַאֲנִי הָיִיתִי עַל יַד הַנָּהָר הַגָּדוֹל הוּא חִדָּקֶל. (ה) וָאֶשָּׂא אֶת עֵינַי וָאֵרֶא וְהִנֵּה אִישׁ אֶחָד לָבוּשׁ בַּדִּים וּמׇתְנָיו חֲגֻרִים בְּכֶתֶם אוּפָז. (ו) וּגְוִיָּתוֹ כְתַרְשִׁישׁ וּפָנָיו כְּמַרְאֵה בָרָק וְעֵינָיו כְּלַפִּידֵי אֵשׁ וּזְרֹעֹתָיו וּמַרְגְּלֹתָיו כְּעֵין נְחֹשֶׁת קָלָל וְקוֹל דְּבָרָיו כְּקוֹל הָמוֹן. (ז) וְרָאִיתִי אֲנִי דָנִיֵּאל לְבַדִּי אֶת הַמַּרְאָה וְהָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ עִמִּי לֹא רָאוּ אֶת הַמַּרְאָה אֲבָל חֲרָדָה גְדֹלָה נָפְלָה עֲלֵיהֶם וַיִּבְרְחוּ בְּהֵחָבֵא. (ח) וַאֲנִי נִשְׁאַרְתִּי לְבַדִּי וָאֶרְאֶה אֶת הַמַּרְאָה הַגְּדֹלָה הַזֹּאת וְלֹא נִשְׁאַר בִּי כֹּחַ וְהוֹדִי נֶהְפַּךְ עָלַי לְמַשְׁחִית וְלֹא עָצַרְתִּי כֹּחַ. (ט) וָאֶשְׁמַע אֶת קוֹל דְּבָרָיו וּכְשׇׁמְעִי אֶת קוֹל דְּבָרָיו וַאֲנִי הָיִיתִי נִרְדָּם עַל פָּנַי וּפָנַי אָרְצָה. (י) וְהִנֵּה יָד נָגְעָה בִּי וַתְּנִיעֵנִי עַל בִּרְכַּי וְכַפּוֹת יָדָי. (יא) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי דָּנִיֵּאל אִישׁ חֲמֻדוֹת הָבֵן בַּדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי דֹבֵר אֵלֶיךָ וַעֲמֹד עַל עׇמְדֶךָ כִּי עַתָּה שֻׁלַּחְתִּי אֵלֶיךָ וּבְדַבְּרוֹ עִמִּי אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה עָמַדְתִּי מַרְעִיד. (יב) וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי אַל תִּירָא דָנִיֵּאל כִּי מִן הַיּוֹם הָרִאשׁוֹן אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּ אֶת לִבְּךָ לְהָבִין וּלְהִתְעַנּוֹת לִפְנֵי אֱלֹהֶיךָ נִשְׁמְעוּ דְבָרֶיךָ וַאֲנִי בָאתִי בִּדְבָרֶיךָ. (יג) וְשַׂר מַלְכוּת פָּרַס עֹמֵד לְנֶגְדִּי עֶשְׂרִים וְאֶחָד יוֹם וְהִנֵּה מִיכָאֵל אַחַד הַשָּׂרִים הָרִאשֹׁנִים בָּא לְעׇזְרֵנִי וַאֲנִי נוֹתַרְתִּי שָׁם אֵצֶל מַלְכֵי פָרָס. (יד) וּבָאתִי לַהֲבִינְךָ אֵת אֲשֶׁר יִקְרָה לְעַמְּךָ בְּאַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים כִּי עוֹד חָזוֹן לַיָּמִים. (טו) וּבְדַבְּרוֹ עִמִּי כַּדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה נָתַתִּי פָנַי אַרְצָה וְנֶאֱלָמְתִּי. (טז) וְהִנֵּה כִּדְמוּת בְּנֵי אָדָם נֹגֵעַ עַל שְׂפָתָי וָאֶפְתַּח פִּי וָאֲדַבְּרָה וָאֹמְרָה אֶל הָעֹמֵד לְנֶגְדִּי אֲדֹנִי בַּמַּרְאָה נֶהֶפְכוּ צִירַי עָלַי וְלֹא עָצַרְתִּי כֹּחַ. (יז) וְהֵיךְ יוּכַל עֶבֶד אֲדֹנִי זֶה לְדַבֵּר עִם אֲדֹנִי זֶה וַאֲנִי מֵעַתָּה לֹא יַעֲמׇד בִּי כֹחַ וּנְשָׁמָה לֹא נִשְׁאֲרָה בִי. (יח) וַיֹּסֶף וַיִּגַּע בִּי כְּמַרְאֵה אָדָם וַיְחַזְּקֵנִי. (יט) וַיֹּאמֶר אַל תִּירָא אִישׁ חֲמֻדוֹת שָׁלוֹם לָךְ חֲזַק וַחֲזָק וּכְדַבְּרוֹ עִמִּי הִתְחַזַּקְתִּי וָאֹמְרָה יְדַבֵּר אֲדֹנִי כִּי חִזַּקְתָּנִי. (כ) וַיֹּאמֶר הֲיָדַעְתָּ לָמָּה בָּאתִי אֵלֶיךָ וְעַתָּה אָשׁוּב לְהִלָּחֵם עִם שַׂר פָּרָס וַאֲנִי יוֹצֵא וְהִנֵּה שַׂר יָוָן בָּא. (כא) אֲבָל אַגִּיד לְךָ אֶת הָרָשׁוּם בִּכְתָב אֱמֶת וְאֵין אֶחָד מִתְחַזֵּק עִמִּי עַל אֵלֶּה כִּי אִם מִיכָאֵל שַׂרְכֶם.

Daniel 12דניאל י״ב

(1) And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time oftrouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time; and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (2) And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches and everlasting abhorrence. (3) And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn the many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (4) But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.' (5) Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on the bank of the river on this side, and the other on the bank of the river on that side. (6) And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river: 'How long shall it be to the end of the wonders?' (7) And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he lifted up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and swore by Him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. (8) And I heard, but I understood not; then said I: 'O my Lord, what shall be the latter end of these things?' (9) And he said: 'Go thy way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end. (10) Many shall purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand; but they that are wise shall understand. (11) And from the time that the continual burnt-offering shall be taken away, and the detestable thing that causes appalment set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. (12) Happy is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. (13) But go thou thy way till the end be; and thou shalt rest, and shalt stand up to thy lot, at the end of the days.'

(א) וּבָעֵת הַהִיא יַעֲמֹד מִיכָאֵל הַשַּׂר הַגָּדוֹל הָעֹמֵד עַל בְּנֵי עַמֶּךָ וְהָיְתָה עֵת צָרָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא נִהְיְתָה מִהְיוֹת גּוֹי עַד הָעֵת הַהִיא וּבָעֵת הַהִיא יִמָּלֵט עַמְּךָ כׇּל הַנִּמְצָא כָּתוּב בַּסֵּפֶר. (ב) וְרַבִּים מִיְּשֵׁנֵי אַדְמַת עָפָר יָקִיצוּ אֵלֶּה לְחַיֵּי עוֹלָם וְאֵלֶּה לַחֲרָפוֹת לְדִרְאוֹן עוֹלָם. (ג) וְהַמַּשְׂכִּלִים יַזְהִרוּ כְּזֹהַר הָרָקִיעַ וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים כַּכּוֹכָבִים לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד. (ד) וְאַתָּה דָנִיֵּאל סְתֹם הַדְּבָרִים וַחֲתֹם הַסֵּפֶר עַד עֵת קֵץ יְשֹׁטְטוּ רַבִּים וְתִרְבֶּה הַדָּעַת. (ה) וְרָאִיתִי אֲנִי דָנִיֵּאל וְהִנֵּה שְׁנַיִם אֲחֵרִים עֹמְדִים אֶחָד הֵנָּה לִשְׂפַת הַיְאֹר וְאֶחָד הֵנָּה לִשְׂפַת הַיְאֹר. (ו) וַיֹּאמֶר לָאִישׁ לְבוּשׁ הַבַּדִּים אֲשֶׁר מִמַּעַל לְמֵימֵי הַיְאֹר עַד מָתַי קֵץ הַפְּלָאוֹת. (ז) וָאֶשְׁמַע אֶת הָאִישׁ לְבוּשׁ הַבַּדִּים אֲשֶׁר מִמַּעַל לְמֵימֵי הַיְאֹר וַיָּרֶם יְמִינוֹ וּשְׂמֹאלוֹ אֶל הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיִּשָּׁבַע בְּחֵי הָעוֹלָם כִּי לְמוֹעֵד מוֹעֲדִים וָחֵצִי וּכְכַלּוֹת נַפֵּץ יַד עַם קֹדֶשׁ תִּכְלֶינָה כׇל אֵלֶּה. (ח) וַאֲנִי שָׁמַעְתִּי וְלֹא אָבִין וָאֹמְרָה אֲדֹנִי מָה אַחֲרִית אֵלֶּה. (ט) וַיֹּאמֶר לֵךְ דָּנִיֵּאל כִּי סְתֻמִים וַחֲתֻמִים הַדְּבָרִים עַד עֵת קֵץ. (י) יִתְבָּרְרוּ וְיִתְלַבְּנוּ וְיִצָּרְפוּ רַבִּים וְהִרְשִׁיעוּ רְשָׁעִים וְלֹא יָבִינוּ כׇּל רְשָׁעִים וְהַמַּשְׂכִּלִים יָבִינוּ. (1) And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. (2) And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people: 'Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.'

Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to Him that sent me.' (13) And David said unto Gad: 'I am in a great strait; let me fall now into the hand of the Lord, for very great are His mercies; and let me not fall into the hand of man.' (14) So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. (15) And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was about to destroy, the Lord beheld, and He repented Him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel: 'It is enough; now stay thy hand.' And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. (16) And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the Lord standing between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. (17) And David said unto God: 'Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let Thy hand, I pray Thee, O Lord my God, be against me, and against my father's house; but not against Thy people, that they should be plagued.' (18) Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto the Lord in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. (19) And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of the Lord. (20) And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. (21) And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed down to David with his face to the ground. (22) Then David said to Ornan: 'Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto the Lord; for the full price shalt thou give it me; that the plague may be stayed from the people.' (23) And Ornan said unto David: 'Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes; lo, I give thee the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing-instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all' (24) And king David said to Ornan: 'Nay, but I will verily buy it for the full price; for I will not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost.' (25) So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. (26) And David built there an altar unto the Lord, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon the Lord; and He answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering. (27) And the Lord commanded the angel; and he put up his sword back into the sheath thereof. (28) At that time, when David saw that the Lord had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. (29) For the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon. (30) But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was terrified because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.

The Sages taught: Six statements were said with regard to demons: In three ways they are like ministering angels, and in three ways they are like humans. The baraita specifies: In three ways they are like ministering angels: They have wings like ministering angels; and they fly from one end of the world to the other like ministering angels; and they know what will be in the future like ministering angels. The Gemara is puzzled by this last statement: Should it enter your mind that they know this? Not even the angels are privy to the future. Rather, they hear from behind the curtain when God reveals something of the future, like ministering angels. And in three ways they are similar to humans: They eat and drink like humans; they multiply like humans; and they die like humans. Six statements were said with regard to humans: In three ways, they are like ministering angels, and in three ways they are like animals. The baraita explains: In three ways they are like ministering angels: They have intelligence like ministering angels; and they walk upright like ministering angels; and they speak in the holy tongue like ministering angels. In three ways humans are like animals: They eat and drink like animals; and they multiply like animals; and they emit excrement like animals.

With regard to this incident, Rabbi Tanḥum bar Ḥanilai says: A person should never deviate from the local custom, as Moses ascended to heaven on high and did not eat bread while he was there, whereas the ministering angels descended down to this world, as guests visiting Abraham, and they ate bread. You say: And they ate bread? Can it enter your mind that they actually ate food? Rather, say that they merely appeared as though they ate and drank.

(ב) וירא והנה שלשה אנשים – לפי הפשט: אנשים ממש, כי לא מצינו מלאכים אוכלים ושותים ולנים בבית איש כמו שלנו בבית לוט. אך אמר המלאך למנוח: אם תעצריני לא אוכל בלחמך וגו׳ (שופטים י״ג:ט״ז). אך אין להשיב על דברי רבותינו, שאף הם כמלאכים לדעת אשר בארץ. ומיהו אסור להורות לפני המינין שהיו מלאכים, שהוא ראייה להם על תרפותם שאכל. המלאכים – שלוחים של מקום, כמו: וישלח יעקב מלאכים (בראשית ל״ב:ד׳). ומזה הפסוק תשובה למינין שאומרים: שלשה האנשים האילו ג׳ החלקים הם. ויש להשיבם: כשבאו לסדום היכן היה החלק השלישי, שאין שם רק שני חלקים, כדכתיב: ויבאו שני המלאכים וגו׳. ועוד שאמר: וישלחנו ה׳ לשחתה (בראשית י״ט:י״ג), ואיזה שלח? הלא כולם שווים.

מלאך ה׳ – הוא אחד מהנביאים אשר היו בזמן ההוא, כי הנביא נקרא מלאך ה׳, כאומרו: ׳ויאמר חגי מלאך ה׳ במלאכות ה׳׳ (חגי א, יג). ואמרו רבותינו ז״ל בבראשית רבה שזה המלאך הוא שֵׁם.

(ב) וישא עיניו וירא – רוצה לומר: וכבר נשא עיניו קודם זה וראה שלֹשה אנשים, והם היו נביאים, כאילו תאמר שֵׁם ועבר — אם היו נביאים כמו שסיפרו מהם רבותינו ז״ל — וזולתם ממי שהיה נביא בזמן ההוא. והנה נקראו מפני זה ׳מלאכים׳ אצל לוט (יט, א), כי הנביא יִקָּרֵא מלאך, כמו שזכרנו בסיפור הגר המצרית. ולא נקראו אצל אברהם כי אם אנשים, כי לא היו שלוחים אליו, כי הוא היה נביא; ואולם מה שהודיעוֹ מענין לדת שרה היה בשורה לשרה, לא לאברהם, ולזה אמרוּ אליו קודם הַגִּידָם זה הייעוד ׳איה שרה אשתֶּךָ׳ (ט), כי אליה היו הדברים. ועוד שאצל אברהם לא היו ראויים שיִּקָּרְאוּ מלאכים, לפי שלא הגיעה להם הנבואה פעמים רבות עד שיהיה ראוי שיתוארו אצל אברהם בשהם מלאכים. וזה, כי אברהם - לגודל מעלתו - הגיעה לו הנבואה פעמים רבות, ולזה לא יתכן אצלו שיתואר הנביא בשהוא מלאך ה׳ אם לא תגיע לו הנבואה פעמים רבות. כמו שלא יֵאָמֵר באדם שהוא עֶבֶד פלוני מפני שעָבַד אותו פעם אחת או שתים, אבל יֵאָמֵר בו שכבר עבד אותו; ואולם יתואר בשהוא עַבְדּוֹ כשישרת אותו תמיד. ואולם אצל לוט שלא הגיעה לו הנבואה כלל, יתואר הנביא בשהוא מלאך, ואם לא הגיעה לו הנבואה כי אם פעם אחת או שתים. אמרו בבראשית רבה (נ, ב): אברהם שכוחו יפה - נדמו לו כאנשים, אבל לוט שכוחו רע - נדמו לו כדמות מלאכים. והנה הקדים זה הסיפור קודם שיגיד ענין הנבואה אשר הגיעה לאברהם, לפי שהוא יספר שבעת פנותם ממנו ללכת לסדום היה הגעת הנבואה הזאת לאברהם, ולפי ששליחות אלו האנשים היה בַּדּבר בעינו שהודיע ה׳ יתעלה לאברהם בזאת הנבואה.

ויקרא מלאך אלהים אל הגר מן השמים – אחשוב שזה המלאך היה אחד מנביאי הדור, ומן השמים שלחוהו אליה להציל ישמעאל, בעבור אברהם; או בא זה המאמר להגר בחלום — להשגחת ה׳ יתעלה על אברהם — מזולת שיהיה נבואה, כי הוא רחוק שיֵּאָמֵר שתהיה הגר נביאה, כמו שזכרנו במה שקדם.
