Sanctification of Hashem's Name

Introduction

This topic is currently in progress

The concept of sanctifying Hashem's name, or "קידוש ה'‏", is considered by many to be one of the central precepts of Judaism. Perhaps surprisingly, however, no where in Torah is there an explicit command to do so.  Though many verses warn against profaning Hashem's name, sometimes in connection with specific prohibitions,1 and sometimes more generally,2 no parallel exists by sanctification.  In Tanakh, it is Hashem who normally sanctifies His own name,3 raising the question of what it means for a human to sanctify Hashem?
