Tzitzit

  • See Of Hems and Tassels, by Jacob Milgrom, for analysis of the significance of tzitzit in the Ancient Near East.  Hems and tassels represented rank and authority.  Dye as well was a luxury item.  As such, tzitzit with their dye of tekhelet were a symbol of nobility and dignity.
